Hi All, some years back I bought my K100 it was a USA import with MPH speedo. Is there a sticker or such like with KPH that I can place over the original. Unless I can buy a very cheap replacement speedo many thanks Coopz.

I've toyed with that idea too Coopz. We have the weird situation in Ireland where we went metric years ago but are seen by most manufacturers as Right hand drive/Uk spec (Yes you heard me!   ). Despite changing our roadsigns and speed limits to KPH our government still sees fit to let our motor industry supply MPH speedo's and Odo's.

It seems to me the most expedient thing to do is to change the whole clock unit to a KPH one. If you get an old Police spec one you get the calibration in 2KPH increments too.

I have a few old units here that have been ratted for bits I will have a look and see if there is a good KPH face and you can get the gears to convert the odo to KM. Ainsjac was saying he got some gears from Jaycar but I dont know which ones.

Thanks for that, any advice most welcome. Also can you tell me if a K1100 LT 1993 speedo unit would fit a K100 they look almost identical reason being is there's one for sale. Coopz

The Speedo from the K1100 will have round connections, if you have round connections on you bike it will fit!
From when is you K 100?

If you get a "new" Speedo make sure you get the correct one.
There are round connection and squared connection.

I think they changed from round to squared 1990.
Before 1988 the gasoline display has changed, because the mechanic in the tank has changed.
Befor that time there is no ABS light/possibility!

This is a very interesting subject. What is different?
The speedo sensor or just the marking on the speedo.
I just went to the workshop and took 2 different speedos expecting that the only difference would be on the marking of the face. Wrong unless they are from 2 different types of bike (One goes up to 240km and the other to 260km). They maybe RT and RS.

I don't know if that exist, but does anybody has a picture of a speedo in miles going to 150mi/h?(This would be the equivalent of 240kms)

For the distance traveled, The gears would definitively be different, but for the speed it could only be the markings on the face.

Looks like the markings are at different positions. I have a speedo from a 1990 model that I got from US for spares and it is the same as that one.
Coops the only dial I have is very badly buckled from heat and the needle wont go past the warped section but I do have a complete unit that came from a 86 that I wrecked about a year ago. It's fairly good but the clock has bled out. It has the square pins but only one fuel light. If you are interested in buying send a PM and we can work something out.
The round and square pins aren't compatible, the plugs don't even interchange.

The small main drive gear....all the others are clustered together.... can be bought from Jaycar in a packet with other gears that may not be of use..cost about $6...cheaper than $25 plus postage.

If the faceplates are interchangeable between the mph & kmh speedos is there enough adjustment in the speedo mechanism to calibrate it to a kmh faceplate using the Karamba software? You would probably be able to pick up a faceplate from someone off the forum who has a stash of K bits lying around.

Any thoughts on this approach from the wise ones on here?

I expect the odometer would need a change of gears as the other guys have mentioned.

You have a very good point Gaz. I remember when a couple of year ago I was playing with Karamba, that the small variable resistor permit quite a wide range of setup.

I heard 20% on the trim pot but does it change just the speed reading or both odo and speedo.

The marked speed at the vertical is 80Mi and 100km
80Mi = 128.748km
If you reduce 128.748 by 20%, the speed will be 103km. Close enough?

It all sounds interesting think I might hang on a bit not in a hurry and see if I can work through this thanks Ric for looking.

I think that was 20% over the whole range not +- 20% so it may or may not work.

Many of the Kawasaki guys use them to remove the speed limiter for track days.

Rick, I remember in the Karamba discussion that Duck had noted here in post 91 that the speedo sensor signal was split and fed separately to the speedo and the odometer, so if the speedo was adjusted it would not change the odometer. I guess that is where a change of gears is required.

I've only done about 250 km's on my K75 RT and, being used to a digital speedometer accurately calibrated with a SpeedoHealer,  I'm already sick and tired of only using half of the speedometer scale, although it uses 15% more than it would, if it wasn't lying like a politician.

So I'm contemplating getting an MPH Speedometer and setting the Speedo Healer to deduct 12-15% (whatever it takes) and further divide by 1.6

That way, I will get an accurate speedometer, with a useful scale in everyday traffic.

Has anybody done that before?
