Riding motor bikes since i am 16 years old, still owning a 1970 Triumph 650bonneville, which was my very first bike.
I entered the BMW' world 15 years ago with a first K1.
Then i was offered a project to rebuild a second one from two: a high kilometered bike and a low kilometered one, but with a front hit.
As i was dealing with K engines, i bought a Yellow chess K1200RS and then i exchanged my Honda ST1300 with a K1200LT for the great pleasure of my wife...
At last, i found a particulary cheap (but in excellent shape) third K1, and can't resist...

Reading forums and watching tutorials, i solved a lot of the common issues that happens with these bikes , as i do mechanics by myself.

I ride about 20000km per year with my K bikes, some dedicated events are organized all around Europe.

So, thank you for accepting me.

Christian

Welcome to the group.

I spend lots of time at St Leon sur Vezere.....seems I pass near you on the way down. Maybe you come to visit us in September if you like camping, there is a very nice municipal camp site there. Herve Duvauchelle lives near it, he has K1......

Hi, Olaf
I know Hervé, and we will meet at the Alicante Kedada next march.

Me and my spouse had a round trip in Ireland in 2019, and we enjoyed it.
We plan to come back for a new trip as soon as it will be possible for us.

WelKome to the forum. We are glad to have you here. We need to balance off the Aussies with a few more Europeans, it has been said.

I was in York Pennsylvania in 1989 at the BMWMOA national rally. It was hot and humid, the crowd was massive for a US rally at the time (9000 souls), it was held in a dusty state fairground which emitted a distinct odour of horse. On Saturday night at the awards event, two K1s came rolling onto the horse track and circled several times, side by side whilst the crowd were seated in the packed stadium. A hush came over the crowd as the announcer introduced the bike to us. Tho' we'd heard of a new model, not many of us had seen it 'in the flesh' at that stage. The bikes were the red & yellow and blue & yellow models.

A few months later I attended a smaller rally on Chesapeake Bay. BMWNA kindly turned up with their truck and a dozen bikes for test rides. I signed up and was the first to ride a 'ketchup & mustard' K1. Although I did not ever purchase one, they have always intrigued me.

Perhaps, some day, maybe.

For sure, riding a K1 is the right way to attract attention, especially with the "Marrakech rot" and the large  K1"yellow stickers on its sides... but it's also a pleasure to ride with it.
There is still a community in Europe and around the world for this motorcycle.
