I just purchased a 91 K100, and I need to purchase a suitable jack to lift from the center, to access both the front and rear suspension.

I used to have a really good one, but the design worked on my Harley (which I sold), but not on my Indian Chieftain, or my KZ1000.... so I got rid of it.

I'm concerned about the "type" of jack to buy, that will allow me to lift the bike from under the engine, without impacting the headers.

I live in Europe, so I'll have to order a European "version" of a jack that works, so if you could post a picture of your jack, that works without impacting the exhaust..... I'd really appreciate it.

I bought a lift similar to the picture below and bolted angle irons to the oil pan that stabilised the bike on the lift platform.  I used tie-downs to hold the bike steady.

Both of those seem to be relatively "normal" lifts. Neither of them has any issues lifting the bike with the exhaust still on??

Abba Skylift. Lots of youtube videos about it. Have used it on all of my Ducatis, BMW R1250RS, S1000XR and am happy to sit on any bike that is on the lift.

Would anyone be willing to show me what sort of modifications they had to make to a standard jack, to successfully work on the K100, without impacting the exhaust?

I just put the bike on the centre stand and then use a normal trolley jack under the front of the engine to lift the front off the ground. I also have a headstock stand that I can use on the front but then of course you can't take the bottom yoke off, depends on the job whether that is a problem or not.

As for the rear suspension, the rear is off the floor when the bike is on the centre stand anyway. What do you want a jack for?

You can even lift the front without a jack. All you is a couple of straps (ropes) a couple of 2"x4"s (star pickets, sturdy straight branches if not in a workshop). It helps to chock the front wheel up first as it takes the strain off the straps. I also now attach the straps to the hole near the top shock mount on the right side and the hole near the seat lock on the left hand side after removing the side covers. More lift can be obtained by removing the rear wheel or if out bush digging a hole. I've tried it with just one strap and it does work but I'm wary of just one breaking so I go with two.

That's inventive!

I'm using a forty-year old trolley from a Dewar jar that used to hold liquid nitrogen in the (then) local hospital. I built it up originally to sit under the sump of my Guzzis, but a 15mm chunk of timber pushed on top does the BMWs as well. Put hand round the front wheel rim, lift and stick the boot into the side of the trolley. Job done

Abba Skylift looks great. Unfortunately, Abba assured me they do not produce a fitting set to use their Skylift with a K75.

If anyone found a way to do so, pls advise. Thank you in advance.

Really like it.
Neat.

I like that design but would want to be really careful pushing an RT onto it - the transition to flat could be a lot to manage.    The drawer isn't shown in the drawing but is a great detail that I would want to keep as well.  Be sure sure to post up some pictures when you have it built.

I too would be interested... I replaced my lift table with an Abba Sky List last fall and I love it. Then I bought the K75, found out it's not not compatible and I am NOT looking forward to being down in the weeds again.

Abba does make a swing arm removal kit that lifts at the footpeg bolt locations: (https://abbastandsusa.com/product-detail.asp?item=swing-arm-removal-kit&pid=21)... but that's if the K75 has 8mm threads there, and is only supposed to be used in the stoppie position. I've reached out to Abba about their use with the K75 - I'll post if I hear back.

The K75 arrives tonight. Further investigation is merited!

For the past ten years and five K bikes I have done all sorts of work with nothing more than a floor jack and a stack of 2x8 cut offs.  That includes frame up restorations, tire changes, engine tear downs and clutch/transmission work.  I tried a friend's bike jack once, but the brick didn't sit on it as securely as a stack of lumber chunks.

I'm interested in how you configured that... got any pics?

It's really pretty simple.  Put the jack inder the front ege of the engine and with the bike on the centerstand raise the front wheel as far as stability allows.  Slide a stack of 2x8 pieces 9" long under the engine with the top one notched out to clear the oil drain plug.  This will allow you to remove the front wheel, brakes, and forks. 

By putting a saw horse under the rear frame loop you can remove the transmission and service the clutch, clutch splines and the rear main oil seal.

Here are a few not so good photos of my 16valve RS getting restored after being totaled in an accident.

Yukon Territory: Got a bolt in the the front tire that left a big hole in the front tire when it departed. Had to pull the wheel to take it to an auto tire shop to get an internal patch since I couldn't get a new tire in the middle of nowhere.
