My K100RT shifts very smooth in all the gears except when approaching a stop. It shifts down very smooth , but when I shift into low gear ( not quite stopped) it seems to clash the gear as it goes into low. If I am completely stopped it shifts OK.
Any forward movement and I get a grinding shift. Is that normal on these bikes or should I adjust the clutch lever.

That does not sound normal and one should always ensure the clutch is correctly adjusted so as to avoid clutch slip or partial disengagement but I am a bit doubtful that is causing your problem. Have you changed the oil and if so what did the magnet look like? Probably the first step is to change the oil for the recommended Castrol Hypoid and see if that helps.

sounds like the clutch is still somewhat grabbing richard ....do the adjustment ....and as kbike suggests get some oil replaced in the gearbox

the only other thing i can think of is that you may have a selector issue , bent shaft or something .

i seem to recall some similar posts regarding this issue

Thanks guys for the response. Oil was just changed by the dealer when I first got the bike in Dec. 2010.
I adjusted the clutch lever but now it is raining quite hard. I'll have to wait to see if that helps. I'll let you know.

I remember the UK consumers association saying if you have your car regularly service by the dealer you are probably severely neglecting it.

When we bought a new Saab 96 many years ago the compulsory service included a gearbox oil change, I found when going home the gear changes had become very crunchy even if I was careful, reading the service sheet I found they had used the wrong grade gear oil so I went back. The service manager admitted they knew it was wrong but they could only get bulk oil in the wrong grade whilst the correct oil came in small bottles. I brought them some correct oil, they drained and replaced and all was well. Make sure the same did not happen.
