I`ve just orderd bearings, axle and wire from Motor-bins.
My clutch action has been a little stiff and I`m about to improve it.
What do you think about fitting a grease nipple on the arm?
I think Motorworks got one listed.
Cheers,Wikur!

Just drill it, tap it and fit a grease nipple. Very easy to do. Should get grease nipple from any agricultural parts supplier or garage.

Thanks Avenger!
I was about to do it myself, got the idea from Motorworks.
Strange that BMW didn`t do it from start.
I`ve never heard that this is a common problem on K`s tough.
My cluth cable is from-88,never been replaced.
Maybe the wire is beginning to cut through the teflon coating?
Cheers,Wikur!

Actually it is a common problem, caused by the rear mudguard being too short at the front. Water and muck get dumped straight down on to the clutch arm. My own one was half seized but I managed to get the rod out of it by tapping it over and back a few times to loosen it. I had another on a friend's K75 that was so seized up that the rod was turning in the two lugs on the back of the gearbox. I had to cut the rod with an angle grinder to get it apart. Better to sacrifice the clutch lever than break the lugs off the gearbox!!!!!

The later bikes had an extra flap on the front of the mudguard to prevent most of the fouling of the clutch mechanism.

I made a mudguard extension from an old plastic oil can. Light and flexible and does the job.

BMW has an extension part available I wrote a post about it a while back when I fixed mine. One comment made at that time was a spray of chain lube on each end of the clutch are on a regular basis prevents any water getting in and seeps into the rollers. I have given mine a shot once every two months or so since then as well as fitting the extended guard.
Regards,
K-BIKE

Excellent work Blakey and I shall do the same in the future, I still think the guard extension is worth putting on to keep the spray of filth away from the cable.

Hey Blakey,

I'm sure I've said it before, but I usually like to screw things up at least twice before I start learning anything so any and all advice before the fact is always appreciated!
