Hello all,
I just received, as a gift, a 1986 BMW K100 RT. This is my first BMW bike and I am excited. The last bike I owned was a 1980 Suzuki 850G. My father in Law had a 1979 BMW K, and he said I will really enjoy my new bike in the twisties. I have a great back roads ride to work each day. I have always worked on my own bikes and I suspect this will be no different. I will be posting queries in the other sections soon. Glad to be here.

I would like to upload a picture but I ma having difficultly. I used the host link and it wont let me paste it into the body of the message. Any suggestions?

I don't think you can paste pictures into news group text.
I think you will need to use a hosting site like www.Tinypic.com. Register with them, upload your picture resized to 800x600, and then copy and paste the IMG number that the site assigns to the picture into your message.

Welcome aboard great to have you with us, a lovely gift to get. There are a few things to do right away and those are to change all fluids and filters plus treat every electrical connection with DeoxIT. In doing those things you will familiarise yourself with the bike and also be sure if you used genuine spares and recommended fluids that you have brought the bike as close to the state it was when it came off the line barring wear of course.

Is that a standard RT screen anyone? mine is about half that height and too windy.

I actually happen to know that it is an aftermarket screen put on by the last owner. It is curled at the edges and gives a complete pocket of still air to the rider. I love it.
