I have installed a bmw fuel gauge on my 86 K100rt. Plugged it into the harness, nothing. Do I have to change to a different sending unit in the tank? How can I check to see if the gauge is ok? Or forget it and pack a couple gallons
Thanks
Kevin

If your tank hasn't got the float meter it won't work. The earlier bikes had a two level switch, not a float with a continuous signal which is needed for your gauge. It is my understanding that if the wireloom has a 4pronge connector for the additional instruments you have a loom that is set up for the fuel gauge. If the tank is fitted with the float meter................You'll have to have a look.

If you look in the tank with a float you can see the rather delicate looking float arm and float. it goes from 0 to 90 Ohms by the way and is back to front when compared to normal fuel senders so the gauge has to be the right way round if one wants to use a non BMW gauge.

It is a BMW gauge and as the stated from the person that I bought it from "it is 2" in dia., it has 4 wires in a orange plug, green, brown, yellow gray, it mounts in the fairing surround". It has the 4 prong connector, but not sure if there is any juice to it. There is a float on the sending unit. Thanks for the replies.

Renez,
Is it possible to fit the appropriate guage/switch into this tank. I have changed out the wiring harness and it has the correct connector, so I am guess I need a different float arm switch assembly?
