I could be tempted, providing it's NOT close to Dublin and i'm allowed to take my bike.....

Open forum, open suggestion.

It would be a nice idea......any takers?

Is a late breakfast/brunch/lunch and run a good option?

GMcQ and myself are about 250 miles apart so anywhere in between is good.......If I recall correctly the day we met at Stradbally Fayre for breakfast ComberJohn had 140 miles and I had 110 miles....along with a nice run afterwards. We seem to have also picked up a new member Darren in Tralee who is even further away, probably about 160 miles to Stradbally.

Stephen,

Nice to see you thinking of us. I imagine most of us have close family commitments on those dates anyway. i was thinking more around 28/29/30th December. [Friday/Saturday/Sunday].

We seem to have developed a slight tradition of Saturdays so maybe we should pencil in Saturday 29 December? Not a late one as there are bound to be some saturday night family occasions.

Just a thought and of course all depends on weather which I will keep an eye out for.

Any thoughts on places/routes?

The Saturday sounds good, Olaf. Good way to blow away the Christmas cobwebs. Bah humbug. At least the days will be getting longer by then.
Unless it's icy or snowing I'm up for it.
Was up the Antrim coast yesterday and down to Warrenpoint this afternoon. Cold but pleasant.
Not sure about an overnighter.
Would take a bit of organising and may be difficult over the holiday period.
Besides, we'll probably be skint anyway.
You guys know the places and routes and could pick somewhere central for a brunch.
Anyone else?

Good to see you John....we all have great memories of our trip up North and the great scenery.

If we drew a map and a circle of about 120 mile radious we end up in a place probably around Tullamore or somewhere north west of it. Its sort of flat in there and not a lot [bet someone will kill me for that] so maybe I will just say not a lot of hills and mountains. Or we could just pick a place we know will be open....

I was thinking on the over night too and think given time of year and weather risk to just go for the day and hope weather stays good. At least if we then cancel because of weather we dont have accommodation issues.

Glendalough [88KE not so far]

Stradbally [Tom Foley not so far]

Hillsborough [GMCQ and ComberJohn could walk to there amd well worth a repeat run]

Johnny Fox's Dublin mountains [sgmayhew could walk to there]

Ballina/Killaloe [actually its lovely down that way, between Portlaoise and Limerick] [[closer to Darren, its on water too....HoverK100 where are you...][long way for GMCQ and ComberJohn although it is on motorway M7]

Don't think I would make this one as its the only time family are all at home but you never know.
I'm only a few miles from Darren and hope to meet up with him over the next few weeks.
As for Ballina/Killaloe, here's a clip of two K's on Lough Derg passing under the Ballina/Killaloe bridge, you can hear the K engine note at 00:14 Very Happy Very Happy and see the rev counter at 1:14 Very Happy I think the speed limit under the bridge is 5 knots Sad

Sorry for the late chip in, been off the grid with work the past week or two!

Blowing the cobwebs away sounds like a plan. An overnighter is def out for me.....unless a lucrative new contract is found before then Crying or Very sad. A Brunch meet followed by a short spin would probably suffice and let people get home before frostbite sets in!

I think being realstic 88KE has it right. We will probably all end up with things happening on the Saturday night so a reasonably early brunch and a few miles and home is probably best. I know for me that probably means in the order of 250 miles on the day...but it does look a good idea. Would Stradbally be daft? Just putting it down to flush out ideas and alternatives. The August route was good but if frosty maybe it might be worth heading west north/west at lower levels?

I think Stradbally would be fine. Good roads for those of us who have a few miles to do and it's reasonably central.
Is that 6 or 7 possible volunteers now?
Starting to look feasible now.

Really nice to see you again. I was thinking of you and the fact that although it is distant its a direct motorway run. Any thoughts on the route?

Seems, as they may say, we might have a quorum....I have put it in diary now.

I also might be interested (weather and family permitting). I have just fitted heated grips to my K1 so might be a perfect opportunity to test them. I will keep on eye on this thread and see what is happening.

Yep, its easy to find.We could meet at McDonald's on the outskirts of Newry.
Plenty of motorway miles so we don't hang about.
Bit like last August when me and sgmayhew were making good progress on the way back up to Dublin after the Wicklow run. Sitting at the ton on our funny old bikes. That's the real ton, 100mph, not kph.
We killed off a few flies on the screens that day, eh Stephen?
What about some Saturday, Gerard?
Do you fancy the Antrim coast or somewhere different?

I see mischief here....I had same experience in meeting Stephen in October, run to Stradbally seemed noticeably shorter than usual.

Stradbally does seem a good location so I best check it is open on 29th...I expect it is.

Fingers crossed for weather but will keep it posted as time approaches.

Wonder who will work out route...........?

If I am missing anyone let me know and I will edit the post.

Bearing in mind potential cold/frosts and also travel distance should we go for something like 10am? I am sure there will be pressures to be home early enough and a few of us have 2 hours each way just to get there.

Great stuff Olaf. But if the list gets much longer we shall have to bring our own rashers to the Fayre!

Just managed to resuscitate the heated grips that haven't worked for years, so all set.

Ringfad, where are you in Dublin? We could meet up before the meet up? S.

Only in Ireland could we have a meet up before the meet up. The phrase reminds of the Peace Process when we had talks about talks.

IF it doesn't clash with family committments(which will probably be in a state of flux up to the last moment) then I will be there. Might just throw my stove and a packet of rashers in the topbox just in case i have to sit out on the street..... Very Happy

I seem to have fallen off the list (you could put an emoticon of me crying). Calling All Irish Eccentrics 177381

I might even have to bungy the car battery onto the rack and connect with the jumper cables to get me there. It worked to move the bike to my dads garage, so why not!
