tried to start the rs and battery was weak. The starter stuck on.Disconnected the battery and charged it. Now starter engages when battery terminals are connected. Is this the starter relay?

'fraid so, ridefar,
It sounds as though the relay contacts have welded together.

Paul.

It very much sounds like it is.... a quick way to confirm is with the battery disconnected lift the tank and take the cover off of the relay box. If you tap the relay it should break the contact that has been made. You can then reconnect the battery and mysteriously everything is fine....

Don't be fooled into thinking this is a fix it's more of a get you home fix! Realistically the Relay will need replacing.

Ridefar.
Get to tool kit.
Get the screwdriver out.
See the upper corner of the relay box on the right side. right near the end of the fuel tank.
Thump it several times with the butt end of the screwdriver.
Touch battery cable back to battery.
Hopefully this will work to free up the relay contacts and avoid having take things apart.
Worked for me.
Regards,
Jim....Don't take the tank or anything else off before trying this.
Bought a new battery and have not had any probs since.
