I wanted to use it on my year 2000 Volkswagen Transporter 2.5 Liter TDI van.

No such luck, as I found out that it doesn't work on diesel engines ...

I decide to keep it to work on other cars in the future.

When I thought of finding a way to hack it so it would work on my faithful Beemer "Katie" which happens to run on gasoline, not diesel.  

Any help on this off the wall project is welcome.

If I remember well, I read something about one enthusiast member working on building a blue tooth similar thing around an "arduino" chip module...

The ELM 327 is listed as working on Beemers Automobiles, this is a good sign 

It would be great if we could access real time data from our Ks but the jetronic has no ability to do this. It's not really a computer but just a comparatively basic analogue logic circuit that controls fuel injection times.

So I guess it would take an analog to digital interface like those modems used in HAM radio for packet data radio transmission to convert analog signal into digital output.
The same devices are commonly used in digital Volt meters and cell phones which use VOIP to send the analog signal of the mike as packets of binary code.
I'm chatting with the seller of the ELM 327 :

Well, I have checked by plugging the ELM327 into another VW van similar to mine but 2013 T5 model.
It did not work either, then after scrolling down all the way on the Ebay page I read this on the last line :

"Please pay attention this tool can not be used on diesel engine."

No problem, I will keep the device anyway, in case I can work on some friends car, or try to adapt it to work on my BMW motorcycle..."

If I can't adapt it to my K 100 RT then I'm stuck with buying a 2015 BMW K 1600 GTL

Why it doesn't work on diesel engines?? I have the same ELM327 bluetooth OBDII scanner and I use it with Torque App in my android tablet without any problem...in diesel, gas...and also in hybrid cars...

Whats the problem that you find using it in diesel cars?
