Hello all from the great state of Wisconsin. I picked up a farm fresh 1985 K100RS that I plan to turn into a Kafe Racer.
Any suggestions on component suppliers like lights, instruments and such would be appreciated.

From down under, great to hear about you and other bikes etc. I say she looks fantastic as is. Motobins.co.uk is best for bits thus far I wreckon. Whats the mileage and was she expensive?? If you do change her Keep all your original parts.

fantastic you shouldn't have to spend much to get it going. I see some car fuel pumps are discussed on the forum as working fine at a fraction of the price of OEM. Well worth flushing the tank and checdking the fuel line condition.

Welcome...that looks a really nice K....

Does 'farm fresh' mean a barn find sitting for years?

If you turn that into a cafe racer keep all the original components. A full undamaged fairing is rare enough these days and they are worth money. I know of one for sale at aroound $400. It does seem a shame to turn that one into a cafe racer but....you got a good buy for $1,200.

The fuel pump is a Bosch unit and the same one is used in some cars. If the bike has been sitting you should pay attention to the fuel pump, filter and so on, all inside the petrol tank.

There is a section in the forum for 'You have just bought a K bike' and it tells you what to do and look out for.

My advice? Ride it for summer and thne see about the Cafe Racer work over the winter.

Over here we use www.motobins.co.uk and www.motorworks.co.uk for parts. Motorworks in particular are good for used parts and have a great website as well as being helpful on phone. Just set up a Skype account and call the landlines....

Hey Spinedoc, Welcome to the forum. You may look at what Tenox has done to his bike. Let us know what part of WI you are from.
Also Let me know if you are selling any of the fairing when you do your Kafe transformation. I wouldn't mind having an extra.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am located outside of Madison. The bike is running perfectly, previous owner included all bags some extra tools and a new rear spline drive that he had picked up just in case and a Corbin saddle.

I do plan to ride it all summer then tear it down over the winter with my 3 boys.

I just sold a 2007 Guzzi Norge I had for 2 years, but this 1985 K100RS (I had an RT back in college in '92) handles tons better. Love it.

So I read the forum yesterday and learned how to do some stuff. Changed the oil, flushed the coolant and bled the brakes then took a nice ride. It might need some updated suspension, seems to hit bumps in the road kind of hard but maybe that is the RS instead of the RT, opinions?

I haven't looked at or been to a rally but I have the opportunity to vacation at the end of July so that could be an option.
