Hi
I have had my k100 rt for a few years now and have never got to the reason for the 3 holes in my panniers, there in the same place on each pannier, i thought it could have racks fitted but cannot understand why there would be three holes as racks tend to have 4.

Anyone have any ideas or seen something fixed to the pannier tops?
I have plugged the holes with plastic screws but its bugging me what would have been on there.

That is a type 1 pannier and from what I have seen they all have them.
If ever you find out you will get a nobel prize for unravelling one of the mysteries of the universe.
Oh and if you do find what they are for then please tell me as I too have often wondered.

The holes in the panniers on the K75 have got rubber bungs in them not the  x head thingies and several others I know of have the bungs. They usually dont go through both layers and I thought it may have something to do with equalizing air pressure between layers till I found they have lots of "ventilation".  Inge or Olaf from Germany will probably know they are both seem to be full of this trivia.

Maybe these panniers were produced on a Sunday, hence they are holy.

Question to OP, are you the second owner? If so I doubt they came from the factory that way. I would think they are for bungy buddies, i.e. small hoops to allow you to hook bungy cords to. Well anyway none of my four sets of bags have had them from the factory and I had to drill the holes to install the bungy buddies. Quite useful little add ons. There was a thread on one of the forums about all the different things you could use for the same purpose. But I like the original bungy buddies myself. Hard to find at shops these days. Last set I had to order from here http://www.hyperlites.com/bungy%20buddys.html

Yes they were there when i bought the bike, just holes, i thought they might be for something like hoops for bungies etc, just thought it was strange there would be three, specially two at the back.

Ahhh, just looked at you link, maybe someone bought the 6 pack.

Yeah, I usually like to have three on each bag in essentially the pattern you show. If your current setup leaks at all try them as they're pretty watertight. Very useful if you go touring.

If you want to attach bungies use an eye bolt from the hardware store $1 max, better still an eye nut. HUGE washers tho'.

If you don't want bungie points buy some "christmas trees" , that's what we call them, with sparingly black Sika flex for waterproof. Cut the "tree" on the inside so no catch points. Or dob of same Sika Flex to round.
Christmas trees are maybe 50 cents tops.

I'd go look elsewhere. Or check and see if they're trying to ship them overnight or something like that. The deal with them is that they look like they are intended for the purpose as opposed to a eye bolt which would work.

I saw a photo of a K bike with a rack on the top box and also unusually one on the top of each of the panniers. I wish I could find it again because it was a matching pair for pannier tops perfect for carrying small lightweight items like a set of tent poles. It fits the description of these holes.

A little further investigation at the time took me to discover that it was done with a modified standard chrome bicycle carrier with two rear holes and one forward hole.

But there is also this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PANNIER-TOP-BOX-LID-RACKS-MADE-BY-JESSE-LUGGAGE-/121003197722?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1c2c5a451a

Yeah, Iove Jesse's stuff. But the 50 is for the little thingies on top. The panniers themselves are too pricey for me. So beautiful and sold for off road useage.

The upshot of this is that I went and checked the rear carrier in my bicycle. And guess what, at the rear its got two supports that go down to near the rear axle, pivot point about 1" below the carrier. Perfect for a bolt fix to an angle on the mannier top. The front of the carrier is a plate on two pivots with a hole on the plate to bolt to a clamp on the bicycle downtubes under the seat. Dimensionally perfect and I can still use the pannier handles.

Drill top of pannier, fit two L brackets at rear and bolt through at the front, put a large aluminium spreader plate on the inside of the pannier and neoprene seals. Two perfect pannier racks. From your local bicycle shop.
