I've been sick and watching TV while drifting in/out of sleep the last few days. One of the channels here shows motoring shows all day. One was about past GP bikes. They had a V4 yamaha 2 stoke 500cc with twin crankshafts that generated 195HP from 6K RPM all the way to 14K RPM in a bike weighing 120Kgs. Cripes, what a death machine. A big winner from the late 70's through to the early 90's. 120Kgs !!!!!!  They said the frame design is still a blueprint for todays gp bikes.

Two TZ250s mated together? I remember the bikes and they were something. Black yellow and Kenny Roberts and awesome sounds...

They talked about the 250 next and it was a twin V. It was developed from the 500 where it is normal to develop from the 250 up. Hence the 250 was a physically bigger bike to ride. They said Honda had a patent on putting carbs between the cylinder V's so yamaha had to put the carbs trailing each pot, not ideal, but they still had a winner. They also mentioned that they modified the fairing and that mod gained 5MPH down the straight. What a knife edged business it is.

A friend of mine, one Daniel Jackson, is currently 250GP UK National Champion.

His TZ250 puts out in excess of 95 horses and weighs next to nothing. Two people can easily lift it onto a bike lift. A fearsome machine!

Tomorrow is the last race of the season at Thruxton, if he manages to get a second place, he'll be champion again. Which has not been done before in two consecutive seasons.

I'll be there to cheer him on.

This is Dan at play...

still haven't figured out why they put the air induction from the rear
traditional maybe ?

makes sense to put it the other way round ...like Toyota and so many others have done these days  and get a pressure advantage whilst at speed  rather than a pressure depression.
besides we all know the advantages of cold air intake .....having said that ...we have moved on from carburettors that used the hot gases to help with atomisation .

just a thought
