Tire age

Hi, got a question about tire age. My new steed has front a Metzler ME33 Laser and rear a Michelin Macadam 50. I haven't been able to find a date code on either. Any other info that swhows age? Or did that date coding start after 2008 :-)

As far as I know there should be a 4 digit code on the sidewall that gives week and year of manufacture, 3204 being week 32 of 2004. Hope I have that the right way round. The numbering system was changed at some point [2000??] and there are posts about that but you might need to do a search.

At this point I wont use one over 3 years old but most might say 5 years.

As far as I know, for both car and motorcycle tires, the manufacture date is in a roundel by the DOT label, 4 digits first 2 years week, other year. Tires I´ve found without that info by the DOT are of dubious origin.

Cheers, but as indicated that 4 digit code can't be found.

Only found following DOT info - DOT - HB9F 188T 305 ???

As per this that tire was made week 30 year 1995.
Or that I understood

In other words, off with the tyres!! Fast. I have just got Bridgestone BT45 and find them excellent and very good in the wet. Got a front tyre in November and a new front is ordered. I have done a lot of winter miles.

I've used BT45's on my Scottish bike a lot. Loved them; 110/80 front and 140/80B rear. For this bike I'm thinking of radials. Was just wondering about the code and not certain the week 30 of 1995 is correct as the numbers are not in a circle. They'll be changed any way, just found it interesting.

The last year the Macadam was produced, I believe was -08.....and the DOT marking system was changed ~~the following year.~~
It was changed in 2000 (time is running), three digit up to...four digit from 2000 on.
Two first digits its the week on both.
