Sorry, too dark at the moment to take pictures, but will post soon.
Had a desire to find out if I still like bikes, have been an UN-Owner for 25 years.
Owned in the past a Honda 185 twin, A Kwaka 400 twin, A Suzuki GS750B (2nd 750b in Queensland), a real H2 Kwaka Widow maker, and a Suzuki GS1000G before I got sensible.

Getting older, and wanted something to do, that would take some time.
Also have a younger daughter about to get her license, so was going to give her my bomb for a year, so she could drive a proper car, and let her make her mistakes.
I would need something to get to the local train station though.
I then had an excuse to get a bike.

Went looking for what I wanted, and had a mate who once owned a R90s,,,, in 79.
Liked it at the time, and looked around at 90ses.   Could not believe the price.
Looked at a R850r, and hated the riding position and the riding custard feeling.
Came home and told the family I may not be getting a bike afterall. Embarassed

Did I need to mention the "middle age crisis" and Change of life" jokes started when I broached the subject to family.  Well the being sensible statements came out then.

Was a bit put off by how I felt about riding the R850 but still felt I wanted to ride a  bike like I used to,
and then this bike came up about 75klm away.  K100 RS
Quoted as in good condition, and 60,000 Ks.
Went and had a look, and a ride, and thought not bad.
Hummed and Hahhed, and then finally thought for the price, I could not go much wrong.

Agreed to buy depending on the Safety Cert outcome, and then when that came in went to pick it up.
It would not start.   Battery flat.   It had started previously, but the owner said he had had problems and had to charge the battery.   It was a Glass Gel battery.   Got it started and rode it home.
So starts the saga of what is wrong, interspersed with good surprises.

Still not commuting or getting to the station on it.
Having a few rides, and remembering most times to watch the speedo.
Family is still not sure if age has fried the few functional synapses I have.  :bom:
So here I am.
Worship       Surprised-o:     By the way I talk too much....

Hi and welcome to our version of a forum.
Good to see your midlife crisis sent you in the right direction of bike. I enjoyed my mid life crisis that I extended it to my old age and I'm still enjoying it.
Have a look at the thread in the portal page about so you just bought a BMW what now and it will give you heaps of good tips.

Welcome,
I feel your pain as mine was very similar but one good ride in the sunshine and you will forget the dark days when you didn't have a bike and all will be well.
Trust me,
(No. Really)

Welcome from Middle Earth. Be prepared to be happy, cranky, ecstatic and annoyed, all at once, but you will love it. A real commute will be via Guyra around September.

Welcome Veka,

A familiar story - funny how people brand it a mid life crisis when you return to bikes after a lengthy break.  The real crisis was  caused by having the family and feeling that it was time to be more responsible (and/or just not having any money left to spend on a bike after home and family drain your wallet) and giving up bikes in the first place!

Don't get me wrong - family are great and the sacrifice is mostly worth it...but when you get out and ride....yeeha!

Enjoy bringing your new bike back to life and don't be surprised if you decided that you bypass the train and ride all the way to/from work.

Welcome from the Irish corner too! In time you will have learnt all you need to know.

No one has told you that Ks tend to get lonely and need a mate. You may just end up with a second one, makes them feel more secure and loved.

Ks also lead to meeting up with others on the forum. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, especially with technical issues and swapping parts.

As for commute? 3 years ago I put 30,000 miles on the car. This year I haven't reached 2,000 (two thousand!!). L T and RT fairings are great in wet.
