That is exactly what has happened to the K75. They are a lot narrower but are getting bigger.

Thanks guys and thnx for passing along the link Rob! Smile I was surprised by how flexible the plastic is and was concerned about just this type of thing happening. I'll have to do a little more homework on the proper methods...

Hey guys quick update. Got a little time and talked again with Dave at GP suspension and he actually recommends doing custom damper rod work vs. using the RaceTech emulators with the stiffer springs. Also, for you guys east of the Mississippi Traxxion Dynamics also knows their stuff and had very reasonable rates for their work.

Hey Toto,

Those are 1100rs covers as I believe that is what the machine started life out as. Way back in this thread somewhere is a pic of a Red 85rs where someone grafted on the 1100 side covers.

Awesome K bike.
Thanks for that and the kudos about this site and its members.
Talking about the earlier post about painting plastic or fiberglass part:
When you paint the flexible bumpers on a car, you have to use a flex agent.
This is the same on a motorcycle for any part susceptible to be distorted.

Check this flex agent. You may find other brands on the market.

Hi Guys,

Looks like I'm going to be heading down to the Bay Area fairly soon for a job recon and I really want to take the old girl if the weather holds. So its time to get off my tush and finish the front end, the rear seal and possible bearings, and a bunch of smaller things on the laundry list. Also going to look into the possibility of adding some driving lights as even with the upgraded bulb and dedicated harness it's still not cutting it in the dead of night with poor weather. Will be posting up progress this weeknd.

Is it a gel battery OG? If so it's the charger that's killed it. Those optimate4 chargers are not good for gel ones.

Hey 88,

Odyssey are actually AGM and not Gel. The key thing with recharging them is to keep the voltage under 15v as per factory recommendations and the Optimate charge in 14.2-14.4 range for the bulk charge. They only charge at the higher voltage if the battery is sulfated and it goes into turbo charge mode. Luckily, mine wasn't that far gone. After overnight charging the battery is now back up to 12.98 so fingers crossed.

I was given an optimate4 by a friend and have had great success recovering batteries with it. I contacted the company when I got a disappointing result with an optima battery. They were really helpful and they told me that they are suitable only for maintenance on an otherwise healthy gel battery. Something for the back of the mind I guess.

Good to know 88. A little misleading on their part as the Gel logo is on the front of the box with AGM and SLI. I'm curious when you say disappointing results...did it not charge the Optima up to 12.5 or did the charge not hold? Also, did you find a brand that gave good results on the Optima?

Thanks,
OG

Ah, OG. You are a braver man than I!! I would never risk opening my final drive, having read about the critical shimming that is necessary to keep that unit aligned and functioning. Well done.

I also love that shock and swing arm on your beast. Some day I'll have the time and energy to buff up the aluminum on my bike.

Don't panic Robmack, opening up the rear drive doesn't disturb the shimming........should you ever need to do it. Replacing the big seal is quite straightforward.

That's a very clean hammer, OG, you're obviously not using it enough!

Don't listen to any of them about the hammer being too clean OG, going by how clean your shed and bike appear i doubt that there would be any grease to stain that lovely estwing hammer.
