I have a 1985 K100 RS with 40k miles. On a long ride yesterday, I lost first gear. I have not had transmission problems, other than the occasional false neutral between 3rd and 4th and 4th and 5th. When trying to downshift to first, the shift lever travels farther than it should, and first gear will not engage. Second through fifth is ok, and if I stop the downshift at second, it's ok. The bike has enough torque to start in second. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? What was the problem and what was the solution?

Thanks,

Mike Lydon

Sounds like selector forks or the drum. Gearbox off. Bad luck, but you will sort it out no prob with the expert advice from members here. Good luck. BTB
