Hey everyone!!

I've located an aftermarket oil filter for the k100 I own, and am hesitating about installing it due to the rough grip stuff painted on the outside of the filter. Will this stuff come off if immersed in hot oil? is the outside of the filter submerged during normal operations? any suggestions, I just don't want to toss a good filter without giving it the ol college try! cheers B

Hi Bruce,
There are reports around the web of that grip stuff coming off when immersed in hot oil. If you are concerned about what it cost you and are determined to use it why not give it a good go with paint stripper to get all the paint off leaving bare metal. My concern is that in the total cost per km travelled the difference between a genuine BMW and an alternative is probably quite small in cents per km terms.
Regards,
