Hello,

I'm new to the K100 Forum.  I live in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and just purchased my Father's 1985 K100RT on August 26th in Los Angeles, CA.  It had 69k miles on it when I left L.A. on August 27 and have almost 72k miles on it now.  The bike had been idle for the past several years because my father is now in his mid eighties and it took a while for him to give up the bike emotionally.

Since leaving L.A., I have ridden the bike cross country staying in Salt Lake City, UT, Bozeman, MT, Bizmark, ND, Alexandria, MN, Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH.

I was planning to go to Allentown, PA, and then return to Portsmouth, NH but I ran into some problems while in Columbus, OH.

I have had many bikes in the past, including a R90/6  and would like to use this bike to cruse the east coast.  I plan on spending sometime cleaning it up and getting it ready for the long term.

Steven Hoenig

Now that is a good way to get back to bikes and to find just why they are still a very good touring bike.

'bike had been idle for the past several years'

How much work did you have to do on the bike prior to climbing on and riding all those miles?

Welcome by the way....

I checked fluids, tires, new battery, and I was off.  My father kept the bikes maintenance up to date.  Being an engineer and an optimist, I assumed I could work through any problems.
