Hi,

I have been helping a local guy get his '85 K100 working reliably.  The first time I saw the bike, I noticed that the wheels he had on it were very unusual. I'd never seen wheels like these before but I once saw a photo of cast aluminum rims made by a German company in the 90's which looked similar but were separate pieces (rim, spokes and hub were bolted together)  I managed to get a few snaps of the rear wheel the last time I was there.

It's got "PVM MT" cast into one of the spokes.  The rim is cast aluminum and relatively heavy compared to my BMW three spoke wheels.  The spokes are aerodynamically shaped and as you can see bent to take into consideration the offset.  Interesting. Anyone know the history of the manufacturer of these wheels?

Based on past experience I can buy 4 K100s for the price of one S-1000RR rear wheel... Shocked

I've just purchased a set of PVM rims for K100, after a long quest.
New tyres, new bearings, recently resprayed...all good. Even the center cap is there, with a special holder. There are no centering cones on rear rim.

These rims are sand casted in aluminium (no magnesium, I would not dare riding on 40 years old magnesium rims!), with empty spokes.
The weight is slightly lower than the 3 spokes sport BMW rims, so its probably the same as the 4 Y spokes.
But I frankly prefer their shape, they look like sharpened polished con rods, whereas the sport BMW rims are poorly finished on the right side, smooth only on the left side.

Curiously, on the front rim, each disc is bolted on the hub, without nut. I could not reuse the common long screws that links the both discs on the BMW rim.

The size is the same as the genuine rims. I don't want big tyres, unecessary and nocive for maneuvrability.

I'd like to attach a PDF document from the manufacturer issued for the TUV inspection, but the functionnality seems out of order.

My Eco does have a 3 x 18 PVM Alumin(i)um front wheel, Typ 11, made in Germany
(the back wheel is from a K1200RS)

These PVM wheels were made in two versions:
Al and Mg - the Mg one being lighter and 'for racing only'
This type 11 has been out of production for many, many years.
Second hand ones are very rare to find.

A good friend of mine - ex-employee of Peraves, the one who has kept my Eco running since 2009 and who certainly does know his stuff -  strongly advised me to keep the Alumin(i)um PVM front wheel and never even think of changing to the lighter Magnesium wheel. Never ever.

Why?
a) the Mg PVM wheels were built and sold 'for racing only' - so they are not street legal
b) he has seen tons of those in the last decades - all of them cracked, every single one. FUBAR

The company still does exist.
Their customer service of formerly produced wheels is not very customer friendly.

Bad Boy, would your PVM rim still have the PVM sticker, vertical on one of the spokes? I'd like to put some as it was genuine but I don't have the real dimensions, and need a good picture of them so I can make new stickers printed & cut.
