Not to disparage the other thread but I have a simpler question.

I've recently converted my 86 K100 to a paralever rear end and it already has the 4V  center stand.  My next project is to convert the front end to K1100 stuff.

Is anybody here running K1100RS (or K100RS4V) wheels on a 2V K100? (3.5x17 and 4.5x18)

The reason I ask is that I've got a nice set of K1100RS wheels I can use BUT I'm thinking they're a bit heavier and will take a little more oomph to spin up.  Just curious if anybody else has tired this yet.

Hi Duck,

I'm running a K1100 front end, paralever backend with 3.5 x 18 and 4.5 x 17 three-spoke K1004V rims on my K75.  Not a K100 mind you, but similar.  I run Battleax T30 radials - 110/80 ZR 18 up front and 150/70 ZR 17 in the rear.  The bike feels very solid on the road and I don't get the impression that they are hard to spin up.

3.5x18 and 4.5x17? Are you sure? The K100RS4V and K1100RS have a 3.5x17 front and 4.5x18 rear.

I think what I'll do since nobody else seems to have done it is swap in the wheels from my 94 RS and see how that works.

The later 17" RS front wheel wont work in K100 2V forks.

The forks on 16v models are further apart(I found this when trying to fit a K100 Leading Link front suspension into K100RS4V triple clamps). The distance between the disks on a 2v wheel and 4v wheel are different, so calipers wont line up to the 4V disks though they will bolt to the forks.

If you were doing RS4V/1100 forks/triple clamp with the 17" wheel, it will all fit.

I know, as stated in my first post I plan to give my K100 a K1100 front end.  It's "easy" to do since I've have all of the parts from a K1100RS that I parted out.

(On my K75 Frankenbrick I even got the K1100 ABS I to work on a 2V K.)

Sorry, didn't pick that line up.

I did have an 1100 front end in my 87 RT for a while, but it was harsh as blazes so I put the original front end back.  The 1100 front end is supposed to be 135mm travel, mine measured at no more than 105. It may have been modified but I wasn't going to muck about with it any more. The original 185mm travel front end with decent Racetech springs suits my needs better.

Duck, in my original Wider Wheels & Radial Tyres on a K100 post, started in 2011 (shown mostly as "Guest" because I left the forum for a spell), I used the three spoke K75S 2.5x18 front and K1100RS 4.5x18 wheel combo on the red '87 K100RS. It steers, in my estimation, with a quicker feel, easier to change direction, and more nimble and lighter on its feet than the original rear 17"/front 18" narrow tyre combo. I enjoy the new wheel combo immensely over the road and have successfully covered many thousands of kilometres aboard the bike, Down Under. I reckon it didn't add weight, though I never actually placed them separately on a scale, and on the road there isn't a lack of 'oomph' or at least the sensation of added mass.

However, when I return in October to OZ I'm taking along a 3.5x17 front wheel and axle/spacers with 305mm discs and a Marzocchi fork from a 16V K100. I want to improve the brakes over the 292mm Suzuki discs/4 piston Brembos I'm using now. Eventually, I will fit the Paralever and appropriate gearbox from a K11 so that the wheelbase & rake/trail numbers come out as Bayerische Motoren Werke intended for the K1100RS layout. Most of you know the 4V Marzocchi forks have a 'flatter' spread than their 2V cousins for 'quicker' steering. The Paralever swingarm's extra length returns those numbers to similar as a 2V when used in combo.

What do the the K11RS wheels weigh?! Here's the front wheel with a relatively new tyre, discs, axle and spacers. That's 34.61 lbs for those in the US, Liberia and Myanmar.
A simpler wider wheel thread Imag4510
And the back wheel
A simpler wider wheel thread Imag4511
That's 28.66 lbs.

If someone on the forum has the 2 valve's 2.5x18 Y-spoke or 3-spoke front with tyres and discs, and a rear 3.5x17 with tyre to weigh, we could get a better sense of whether there's increased mass to rotate. I'm fresh out of the older type up here in the States.

Hi there TWB and anyone else who has an opinion. I'm doing a rebuild on an k100RS (about '85 I think) and I'm putting a complete K100rs16v front end on it, having taken it off the 16vrs powered outfit I also have, (more of which later). My question is, rather than fit a paralever rear end and associated gearbox, can a spacer be made up to lengthen the monolever slightly, if there is enough length in the splines in the drive shaft. Just a thought. Cheers, Dave.
P.S. See a new thread for some info and opinions needed regarding my outfit.

So what does it measure out at these days, and is it a case of machining in a slot for the K100 rear rim centre to slot into and then weld up? Or are they welded on both sides??

So I just read Akront 18" 3.5 something else unintelligible, so is it really only 3.5 wide, looks way wider than that.

When I fitted a 18x4.5 three spoke to my red '87 RS (late 2011?) I ground off a bit of the inner 'toe' of the retrofitted K11 centre stand and it cleared the 160/60ZR18 tyre on the left. The fitment of this wheel would be the same, from recollection of twenty five+ years ago when these widened rims were a new concept. The inscription reads 3.5" but it's because the two halves of an 18x3.5 Akront rim are welded to the cut away edge of the OEM wheel for a total width of 4.5", thus the 160/60ZR18 tyre. It's not everyone's bacon.

I was talking to some mob who repair alloy wheels after one of my M5 wheels got damaged and they said that doing that to a bike wheel would be a very straight forward job but they would prefer to use a one piece rim machined to fit over a machined down K100 wheel and not the 2 halves. Considering it cost $200 to get the repair done the wide wheel job could be well over $500 plus the cost of the 2 wheels.
I would be inclined to make a 5" x 17 as now days tyres are much easier to get in 17" than 18"
