After seeing TWB's post on running a Seattle based workshop I was wondering if there is any interest in doing a SE QLD workshop. I have been to a few and there are a lot of benefits to be had for both the novice and the experienced Bricker. I have quite a few specialist tools, that may help with a workshop. I will list them if there is any interest.
Regards Martin.

No worries Charlie. I have a few specialized tools that I can drag along if needed a Carbtune manometer, exhaust gas analyser plus more. Once we know what is needed I can possibly ferret it out. Unfortunately some of the gear is too bulky and requires a compressor to run them. Once we find out numbers, location and jobs required we can narrow it down.
Regards Martin.

Since we offered puddings to the Australian sub office in Seattle we should offer some to the QLD office too......give me some idea of number/time and I will see what I can do.

I think we may have enough for both.....

At the moment we are trying to work a location. I am also assuming a Saturday or a Sunday would be preferred by most participants. Attendees could start the ball rolling by stating their preferred day. I would have volunteered my place but due to ongoing family medical problems it would be better if I bowed out on that.

Regards Martin.

Kompany is always good. 😀
With the moon boot, walking = hobbling, otherwise no problem. Worst is that I can’t ride a bike until I’m out of the boot. ☹️ Hoping for Friday when I see the surgeon again. Surgeon is a fair description for his abilities, but in my case all he had to do was clean up some rough wound edges, put in a drain to an infected area and put in a few sutures to hold it together. Hardly taxing his skills to the utmost!

I will do my best to be there although not on a bike as the spine just wont cop it any longer. I have a bag of shims and 16V buckets as well as a cam alignment tool for the 16V a compression gauge and leakdown tester. Wont bring the lathe it's a bit heavy.

For me, none of the ducks would line up on those dates due to daughter and family visiting from France, and running a polling place for the NSW election.
As always with these gatherings, I’m only one person, and plans need to be made for the many, not the one.

Hi All,

Looks like Matthew beat me to the punch.  As an alternative I could do 16/17 February and from there the next available weekend for me is 9/10 March although this is close to Bill's Snowy Run.  The ones in between don't work for me.

I am about 10 minutes further south than Matthew and could probably offer up a couple of beds as well for any Mexicans travelling north.  Also I would be home on the Friday, if they wanted to spend time up here.  That would then mean the Saturday.

Also on offer would be beer, rum and as much single malt whisky you could drink.

I am in the process of putting a 6 x 4 m shed out the back which was approved today but at the moment don't have a scheduled date of completion.  Hopefully mid February won't be as stinking hot as it is at the moment, as my garage can be toasty.

Also, it would be a chance to host Tom and introduce him to Tooheys Old beer and I would love to see Rick's 18V shims and buckets.   Very Happy  Charley, I hope you don't mind me referring to you as a Mexican.

Matthew, happy to discuss dates.

Cheers, Dave.

What is the timescale on this?

I was in a store earlier this week and because pudding ingredients most have a long shelf life I stocked up. I even have crates of Guinness looking at me but as I don't drink the stuff its safe.

Its just cooking time has to be organised as they take 7 hours to cook......making them is easy, max an hour to make a 4 kilo batch.

Let me know if Gaz is going along......tell him to bring Ruth!!

Olaf it seems at this stage Matthew is going to host the workshop. It is now just a matter of trying to get a date that works. My dates are ultra flexible and I should be able to turn up no matter what, barring medical emergencies.

Olaf, it's possible that I will go up to Brisbane just for the opportunity of meeting some of the members who have not had the chance to participate in some of our get togethers in the southern states and catch up with those old friends who might go along.

Since it is an 800km jaunt from my place I'd be hoping that I didn't need to do any mechanical on my bike when I got there. Ruth would not go as she has retired from the pillion seat in favour of chasing a little white ball around long grassy paddocks.

I'll be keeping an eye on the date and associated weather forecast as I've also got weak in my old age and don't travel on the bike in +35degC any more.

Cheers

That vid. on the cane toads is great. It was reported recently that a local Labrador dog died after eating a cane toad. So they are certainly moving south.
I'm still thinking of coming up for the workshop but only to make up the socialising numbers. Any of those dated suggested would suit.
Cheers

A girl I used to work with had a Great Dane that was addicted to licking Cane Toads. It used to get some sort of high from doing this. When she would try and take the toads away the dog would get possessive and growl at her. Fortunately he didn't try to bite just growled grumbled and groaned. He also used to suffer a Cane Toad induced withdrawal or hangover.

Most Aussies these days wouldn't even be aware that Victa made an aircraft way back when.  Shocked  They'd only recognise the lawnmower. Even those aren't made in Australia any more, though they are still available.

When I was involved in Scouts as a District Commissioner, one punishment for recalcitrants on Jamborees was Project Victa. They had to trim the grass in the campsite with a pair of scissors!

Matt!! Matt!! I've got a tank here waiting to be extradited to Oz, but I'm short a few details for UPS. Did you get my PM/email with the request for the extra information?

[Edit] Got it - thanks! Very Happy I'll book it with UPS tomorrow for (hopefully) a Tuesday pickup. If not Tuesday, it will leave here someday next week as I'm away to the Dragon Rally from Wednesday onwards. Well, it's a big loop round Wales meeting with friends first and then heading up to the rally site in Snowdonia next weekend.

Q. How many profiteroles does it take to equal an éclair. A. It doesn't matter you'll never equal a Beefies éclair.

What exactly was done to the engine by Matt and the crew? Which parts were replaced and where were they sourced? That seemed to be an obstacle.

Laitch there were a few of problems. Out of the four new "O" rings, only two were a potential fit. Two when pushed into the clutch basket distorted as they were pushed in, the diameter was too large. This caused one on a previous effort to be pinched and cut. Next problem Charlie pointed out that the seal run surface needs to be linished with 400-600 wet and dry to get a run surface for the Teflon seal to bed into and also remove any pits or marks.

A lot of measuring ensued and the other problem was with the non OEM seal. The seal lip runs further in than the OEM one which makes it run right on the edge of the sealing surface on the basket. When the non OEM seal is installed it can push up against the plastic thrust washer causing further sealing problems. On disassembly the plastic thrust washer was broken. The 10mm wide non OEM runs the seal lip in at 9mm the 10mm wide OEM seal runs in at 6mm the seal run surface is 10mm wide. The new seal was driven fully home on Charlies advice and a smear of oil applied to help push the clutch basket home.

When Matt queried the fitment of the plastic thrust washer, a lot of members reported not seeing it and not fitting it. As a lot of members have used non OEM seals and it has worked it is possible that by not fitting the thrust washer it allows extra clearance 1mm, allowing the non OEM seal to work. Personally I wouldn't risk it and would fit a OEM seal with the thrust washer. The picture is of the old seal fitted to the clutch basket. I too would like to thank Charlie, Tackler and Matt it was very much a team effort. Looking forward to the SE Qld Workshop.

Regards Martin.
