Go it like that and is not the best quality thing ever, but it works.

Hi guys,

sorry it's been a while - they wanted to complte the downpipe jig while they were at it so that they can be supplied as well [ K1100 ]

Please bear in mind this is the PROTOTYPE and has yet to be polished and completed.
Alternative exhaust end can SONAVON007

Hi ganumph,
There have been a number of alternative silencers available over the years for our bikes and one thing that has been surprising is that actual dyno tests that a number of bike mags have done show that the standard silencer frequently has better power output at the wheels than the "new" one. So before shelling out any of the dosh for any after-market silencer ask for before and after dyno charts on the same bike with the standard silencer and with the "new and improved" one. Unless it is a style thing where you are not concerned with performance or economy that is.
Regards,
K-BIKE

I like the look of that!!
Did you make the adaptor yourself from scratch or did you butcher an old exhaust?, I was thinking of buying a second hand aluminium or stainless can for £20 or so and making some sort of 4 into one fitting myself. I wonder if it would have any detremental effect on performance or is it just a case of suck it and see? I don`t suppose I would be that bothered with a slight drop in performance as there isn`t sound barrier busting bhp to start with, I was hoping to make her sound and look better!

Ganumph,

the Collector was developed directly between myself and Keihan so that "Normal" silencers could be fitted at will. Before that road testing was completed, I had many enquiries from K1100 owners enquiring about a similar system. That then made sense to develop a set of new Stainless downpipes that could suit K100 or K1100. That's where we're at now. The K100 has had over 3000 miles of real World testing on my RS, and we are just getting the initial feedback from the K1100.

No dyno tunes as yet - just seat of pants. More mid range grunt [ 8 valve ] and no flat spots or hesitation. Sounds good too !

I would suggest that [ economy apart ] there's no real value of a bhp or 3 more or less - as I've yet to meet the Brick rider who spends most of his ride at 130mph plus [ even 100 mph + ].

The MAIN reason for this project [ purely selfish ] was to end up with a quality stainless steel replacement system that didn't cost arms and legs - oh yes, and wasn't prone to cracking [ and thus expensive replacement ] as OEM K1100 systems. Actually, my initial approach to Keihan was to develop an upswept system for my race Rep and Streetfighter projects.

Looks also came into it - but that's subjective anyway.

OOps just noticed your original query - yes go for the butcher and weld approach.!!

Reyt, I`ll keep my eye out for an old k100 exhaust, does anyone know which exhaust systems fit or is it just a K100 system I will be looking for. Suppose the best place to look is fleabay, unless anyone has a spare exhaust going on here? Wink
