Hello.

Wondering if anyone here has successfully run a Motogadget Motoscope Mini successfully on their K bike using the stock sensor and a BEP 3.0?

Having problems with mine and just want to make sure that it is actually possible.

Has anyone run a Motoscope Mini on a K100? IMG_1393(2)

I haven't tried mounting one on my moto but that won't stop me from starting this off. Smile
What is your ImpE setting—0.5 or 1?

Yes I have.  Have you tested the SPD output from the BEP using an oscilloscope to confirm that the BEP is working?  You should get a square wave output of about 12V showing up.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, its only the speed reading that is the problem, the RPM works fine, using their pickup on one of the plug wires.

Thanks

I tested it with a multimeter and didn't see anything at all in either resistance or voltage. Don't have an oscilloscope to use unfortunately.

I also tested the input side and can confirm that is working correctly.

Should it be set to 0-5v or 0-12v at the switch on the BEP?

I think the BEP may not be working but when I went for help from CafeRacer where I bought it from they told me you couldn't run a Motoscope from a BEP which is contrary to what I had heard. I therefore need to confirm this as wrong so perhaps they will send me another unit to test.

If you are not seeing any output on SPD when you spin the back wheel and you are confirming input on Pin 22 (Yellow) , then there is a problem with the BEP.  You can't confirm this with a multimeter because the response time of the multimeter is too slow to accurately indicate proper functioning.  You'll have to view the output on an oscilloscope.  See if you can borrow one.

It is incorrect to say that the Motoscope Mini will not work with the BEP.  I helped a friend get one working here a couple weeks ago.  I build a board just like the BEP that is compatible with a number of aftermarket gauges.  Like with my TGPI board, the SPD output on the BEP just needs to be a square wave signal oscillating between 0V and 12V in response to the wheel rotation, creating 6 pulses per revolution.

How nice of you to assume I didn't spend hours searching first.  Wink

Thanks for the links, had found those already but none of those threads contain anything helpful to me, you'll notice I actually posted a question in one of them. Problem is no one follows up on these threads so you never get a conclusion.

My question is simple. I just need to know of a few people who have used the motoscope Mini with the signal from a BEP 3.0 so I can say for definite that the speed signal from a BEP 3.0 can be used with a motoscope.

Thanks

I thought the same about the issue being with the BEP.

It doesn't help when the people you bought it from are now saying its not possible, when they were one of the ones who originally said it was the best way to do it when I as looking at buying the BEP.

I will see if anyone locally can help me with an Oscilloscope.

It is totally possible to attach the Motoscope to the BEP and have it work. The Hall Device that ships with the Mini (the sensor that Motogadget expects you to mount on the fork with a magnet on the wheel) outputs a square wave of 12V with a pulse each time the magnet passes by the sensor.  BEP is no different in the signal it outputs.

If the BEP is not outputting a signal as the wheel revolves, and you are certain you can measure a 1.5V AC signal on the Yellow wire when you spin the wheel, then the BEP is defective (or misconfigured but I've no documentation on how to configure the new BEP 3.0).

Have you tried contacting Marulabs in Switzerland who manufacture the BEP?

I am not getting a 1.5v signal, its more like 0.60, and a noticeable change in resistance.

Is it worth trying a known working second hand sensor from Motorworks to rule out the sensor, for the sake of £35?

Sorry that I made some assumptions when I quoted that value.  The 1.5V is peak to peak approximately.  You have to interpret the multimeter reading.  If you disconnected the plug at the left side under the battery cover then you have to measure across both wires (Yellow and Brown) that goes to the speed sensor in the rear end. If you are measuring at the main instrument connector that plugs into the BEP, you have to measure between Pins 22 and 23.    If you do either of these setups, set your multimeter to AC volts and take a measurement while spinning the back wheel (assuming the bike is on the centre stand).  The reading should be somewhere around 0.7 Volts AC. You would be measuring Volts RMS this way.  The conversion to peak to peak yields about 1.5 Volts - 2 Volts peak-to-peak.

Resistance across the wires should be constant, not varying.  Don't move the rear wheel when measuring resistance.

Is this what you are measuring?

I was measuring between 22 & 23. I have a feeling it was close to but under 0.7v.

I was measuring resistance with the wheel moving.

I will check again with some help to make sure as it’s hard to do by yourself.

As an update I got my Moto scope working with the stock sensor and a BEP 3.0

Set it using my Racelogic VBox so its very accurate.
