Hi all, decided I needed some indicators on my cafe conversion so bought some LED strips off Amazon.
Researched on here how to fit them, including the flasher unit mod to accept LED.

Well I was quite chuffed with myself when I got them working, until I noticed the tail light and front side light were no longer working!

Brake lights work ok (both).
Indicators work ok (same ground source as lights).
Main headlight works ok.everything seems to be working ok apart from the taillight and side light.
I must have touched/moved something somewhere in the process but cannot for the life of me see where.

Would anyone have any ideas what I may have done to stop the two lights working??

Many thanks.

DC.

One thing to check would be fuse number 2.

Checked and indeed, blown, though a replacement hasn’t fixed the original issue..

If the fuse has blown again, that looks like maybe a short somewhere. Then remove the front park light, the tail light, and the bulb monitoring unit. With a test light connected to battery positive and the probe in harness socket 58A, if the test light glows, there is a short between there and the tail light. If it glows in socket 58E there's a short between there and the fuse, or the front parking light.

If you also messed with the brake light, that might have something to do with it.

Well the bulb monitoring unit has gone and I am left with a nest of wires. Someone at sometime has taken it upon themselves to have a party in the lunchbox!!!

Definitely a short somewhere though.. fuse blowing straight away as I turn on ignition.

Maybe an LED brake light was installed so the bulb monitor was removed. Use a test light to check for a short of the wire from the tail light to where the bulb monitor was, originally grey/black. The fuse/monitor/front park light wire is originally grey/white.

Maybe when the bulb monitor was removed, the grey/black and grey/white connectors were joined, but not insulated properly, and if touching earth somewhere, causing a short.

They were indeed joined somewhere near the previous bulb monitoring system. I have the a grey/black wire joined to two grey/white wires. Obv grey/black goes to rear light and one of the grey/white goes to park light. The other wire heads off under a tangle and I’ve not been above to find where it ends, presumably a switch.

It goes to fuse 2.

Ok so I have stripped it back to where the side park lights work on ignition position 1, however they go off on position 2 when they used to stay on, and of course the tail light goes off.
Brake light works ok on position 2.

Are you saying you fixed the short and that the fuse no longer blows, but that now they don't work in position two? What was causing the short?

Ok. Just fixed the tail light.
Turns out you have to turn the lights on when the ignition is in position 2 ….. 😫.
What a d..k!!!

Goodo, the simple solutions are the best.

I try to avoid the cafe threads since they're so complicated, luckily this one wasn't too bad.
