Hi all,
I’ve read herein that a Y spoke rim can be straightened, how about a slight whole wheel buckle?
Pro job obvs, I wouldn’t want to DIY it.
Cheers, Stu

Never heard about that.
Is there a confusion with the early R100 snowflake front wheels? Some had quality issues with casting and cracks were prone to appear. So they were recalled and replaced by reinforced rims.
But K's Y rims never had such issues.

OK, sorry, my fault.
I confused straightened with strenghtened...

I need to pay more attention!

So yes, any rim can be straightened. But it will cost you much more than buying a used one. I have plenty of K rims in the attic...

No jb I pot holed the front. It has an observable wobble and leaks air, but not so bad it cant be ridden.

Well... I'd skip Motorworks for once, but ebay's always worth keeping an eye on. I've seen good ones as low as £50 a shot.

Hi Dai, are you saying it shouldn’t be straightened?

A small rim buckle can be straightened - K wheels are pretty soft and it's a careful DIY job with a copper mallet - but I wouldn't go anywhere near anything that needed the spokes straightening too. At least, your post appears to indicate you may have a spoke buckle too.

Stu - if you're gunna try it yersel'; one very important thing. Work from the outside of the buckle to the middle. What you are trying to do is to move metal back to the area which is stretched. Most people start with beating the bejeezus out of the lump; all that does is to make it worse because you're flattening the thin piece and pushing more metal to the outsides.

Patience, m'boy; patience.

Its common for people to reflect and think 'If I had my time again I'd...' and things like Polar Explorer, or Horse Whisperer, or Concert Violinist get mentioned.
If I 'had my time again', I'd be a paintless dent repair guy. I've seen good ones work and they are spooky good  Wink
