Does anyone have a tip for remounting this bracket (the one that mounts near to rad). The left hand captive nut at the top is behind the hose to rad fixing and even if I took the hose off, the rad stub would still be in the way. Is there a trick or does the rad have to be moved (tricky for me as the sidecar subframe is too restictive)? It was reasonably easy to get off as the bracket was broken but I can’t get the bolt back in place with a complete bracket.

I have had that off many times but never had to remove the rad or the hose. There are two bolts for it and I had to get one in first to hold it so I could get the second one in. It was fiddly though.

I cant remember how I did it as its been a while but if I remember correctly its a 10mm bolt and the only tools I might use there would be 10mm open or ring spanner.

Thanks to Olaf for his positive reinforcement it was clear that I was using the wrong approach. So for the benefit of any future poor sods:

1st mistake was fixing the bottom (easy) bolt on the mistaken premise that eliminating one of the moving parts was a good idea.

2nd mistake was not appreciating that the captive nut was at rest at the back of the pocket beyond the reach of the bolt.

Actual solution:

Start with the top bolt.
Pack thin card behind the captive nut to force it forward.
Set the bolt into the bracket.
Mount a 10 mm rachet spanner on the head (this prevents any clumsiness forcing the bolt out of place on its next journey).
Curve bracket et al up behind the rad hose until the vertical leg is positioned such the bolt and nut are aligned.
Ratchet away until bolt secure but not tight.
Leave the ratchet spanner in place then do then do the bottom with a 10mm socket.
Go back up top and finish tightening.
Took 20 minutes compared to the 4 hours I’d already spent.
