I think i mean the rear spline where it goes into the rear wheel drive, its the spline that has the most for/ aft movement

there should be little moovement ,,,the tail shaft fits to the output shaft of the gearbox where a universal joint is situated ...it should click home as there is a internal fitting circlip- spring clip in the uj nose which locates in a groove on the gearbox output splines .

but the splines on the driveshaft to bevel box is where there can be moovement ...some folks here did some measurements and found it quite small .

in any case special molly grease should be used for that sliding joint ...the early series tail shafts had 16 teeth splines where as after 86 they had 20 tooth

my early series tail shaft and pinion to the bevel box had lots of moovement about 2 mm in and out of the rear drive ....which is wrong ...there should be spacers etc that hold the pinion in place real firmly so that wear on the gears is correctly calibrated etc

there have been a couple of tutorials on how to remove the drivr line for lubrication in here ....is that what you are looking for ?

if so, i can find it for you

yes your right bill

i have seen that one also ...sometimes hard to find again , especially when its part of an ongoing thread and not mooved as a portion to the how to section .

but i think most things are covered pretty well, one way or another

the german being spoken is not a hinderance at all ...the pics tell the story i guess

I remove the speedo sensor from the final drive housing but leave the wheel and shock attached. With the bike on the center stand (or centre stand for you Brits and Aussies) shim the rear tire with some wood. After removing the speedo sensor so you are not limited by the slack in the wire, unscrew the final drive housing from the swingarm (four 8 mm allen head cap screws ) and roll the whole final drive back just far enough to get an acid brush in there to clean the splines and dab some lube on them. Then roll the wheel back and align the male splines of the pinion to the female splines of the drive shaft. Fifteen minute job I do at every 10,000 mile service.

Of course now that I converted to Paralever the spline lube just became a much more demanding job.
