Going to swap handlebars and wheels from my old bike to the Basic this weekend and see what difference it makes.
Still undecided if I like the riding position.
Might just give the old girl a good clean, replace the fairing with original parts and sell her off.
I can only have one registered bike and I really don't want to lose my original RT after 18 years.

No mate, just a bit hard to get a picture in colour of the headlight and surrounds.
Found this one on beemerboneyard and posted it so folks could see what is supposed to be on the bike.

I am in talks at the moment with the lovely Tez from Motorworks to secure the parts I need.
All bits minus the headlight for 74pound. Not bad.
Until you add the 35 pound postage. Oh well. Hope I can sell the Krauser to pay for the parts and come out neutral.

Might have to go for a ride on the weekend. Is that the kind of 'stuff' you had in mind?

Changed the fork oil last night. Maybe I should call it the 'fork fluid'.
Not sure what it was but it was runny and grey. Hopefully the oil colour and not an indication of worse things inside.

Swapped over my pirelli wheel to the back and will do the front tonight.
Handlebars also and then a ride. See what the difference is.

Reading Mike P and his K1 I can understand some of his comments re riding position and knees and cornering.
While the /2 does not have the set back pegs like the K1, the lower seat and knees up feel is certainly very different to what I am used to. Not uncomfortable, but very different.

Is there much difference bewteen RT bars and the Basic's?

How was the headlight mounted when the Krauser fairing is on?

I will check the bar situation. I actually have bars off a naked K100 and they are slightly smaller than the RT bars.
I will take a photo to compare them.
The bars on the /2 seem huge.

At the moment the headlight is still on the bike with the fairing. Lots of bolts n bars n brackets to hold it all on.
Should get a photo of that too in case someone is interested.

And again now that I am home and had a play.

the bars are the same as the RT bars. BIG.

The Macadams I have just discovered are poo. Not just snap off clean one sheet of toilet paper poo, but real half a roll smear the bowl takes 10 minutes to clean up, poo.

I stuck on my sport demons and the difference is amazing. It does not want to roll onto its side when going round corners. It goes where I point it and just feels better all round.

If anyone has Macadams and likes them then fair enough, but if you get a chance, try something else.

I was going to swap the bars over at the same time, but it was hot and I wanted to drink bourbon so I just did the tyres. I will swap the bars on the weekend for the K100 set and see how the riding position changes.
I am doing this just out of interest as I am pretty sure now I will sell the /2.
If it was in the same condition as Basic2's bike I would not hesitate in keeping it, but unfortunately it has not been cared for well enough and the low mileage is no consolation.

For sale. K100/2. $3000. Only paid $2950 for it. The extra $50 should cover my living expenses for 2 days, beer, accomodation, missing 2 days of work, stress.

Sorry to hear the Basic/2 isn't what you expected. Maybe with another rocker cover and the fairing taken off you might see it differently.

Rossco - have you considered taking away the low seat option and putting the RT seat on to see how it feels?

If it's more comfortable you'd always get a buyer for the low seat kit which would fund side panels and a seat for the new motor? Just a thought!

I reckon you are jumpin the gun a bit there to sell, the low seat is always easy to swap for a standard hight seat and I think that the comfort seat you have is high in comparison to my comfort seat (no I'm not trying to talk you out of the comfort seat but).
Maybe borrow a standard bench seat and go for a day ride, any more than a day and your bum will never forgive you.

So Mr Klompy came over and balanced the carbs.
These are the starting reading. A bit out of whack.

Who you callin' Basic - Page 2 Dsc04510

This is him hard at work. The result was all pretty close to 22.

Who you callin' Basic - Page 2 Dsc04511

Then we went for a ride. Not far, about 20km up the back roads from Castle Hill to Windsor way. Mr K rode the basic and I took his RS.
You will have to ask him his impressions.
On the way home the bike seemed to be better/ smoother than before, but that really didn't matter. Parked in the garage and it is coming apart.

Actually the Basic went really well...smooth and comfortable..no doubt because of the comfy low seat and the insanely large handlebars...you can go full lock in the carpark and increase speed till you damn near dissappear up you own !!.....well you get the idea.

The bike was very well behaved and was very easy to ride , it almost felt like a cruiser where leaning back round corners did not feel awkward.

The fairing was not such an issue buffeting wise as I am a little taller than Rossco and it certainly felt better than an RS when you are 6FT plus. The skylight appeared to be factory fit and was not any use to see through for me....unless I sat on the back pillion part of the seat , now that was freaky...although ther pegs felt better from there as a result of the seat height no doubt.

All in all a very nice bike that looks the goods and goes well...just a little TLC needed to bring it to perfection..everything even works on the dash!!!!

Thanks Rossco for the privilege of taking her for a ride...destination pub for lunch was ok too.

So what phsychology do those that have more than one bike recommend in relation to she who must be obeyed?...this is the stumbling block I have at this moment...I even have a lock up in another location to hide said purchase...

I will have to ponder a while longer and continue to look with admiration at such treasures as Rossco's and Cafe's etc etc etc.

If only there was a quick disconnect fitting that could change you from RT to RS to Naked.....perhaps thats why I saw an RS with a round headlight the other day....mmmmmmm an idea is formulating.

Went to a mates for dinner on saturday night and while discussing life, the universe and bricks it was mentioned by my mate that I was not that impressed by the bike. SWMBO just said 'sell the bastard'.
Decision made.

Time to start the clean.
I have been in contact with Motorworks and have organised the headlight surround and various hardware. It appears I have the correct headlight, but I am not sure. The inside of the rear has the number 1305114011 stamped on it. Google led me to an ebay page saying it is from an R SERIES.
Actual globe n bits seem ok so fingers crossed.

Off came the fairing.

And the instruments. This is a little different to mine on the RT that has big white push in type connectors. The black plate slides off the back. Anyone have a clue on how to remove the wires?

Who you callin' Basic - Page 2 Dsc04516

And the wheels.
This is how they were on the bike. Bit grubby.

Who you callin' Basic - Page 2 Dsc04517

and then 90 minutes later. For one side. Still not Halo clean, but better.

On this new modern bike you now got it isn't two single connectors.
Both row of contacts is in one housing........

BTW. it should be a cover on the rear side of this bigger connector,
and white zip ties affraid (Hey, Blakey...) around the rubbers where the
wires enters the connector.

Thanks Inge. There were two white cable ties holding the wires. Cut them off. Of course. I had no idea what I was doing.
There is a sliding cover that hides the wire ends.
So the whole lot comes off in one piece.
So not two separate white plugs but one big black sob.
I will give it a go tomorrow. Red wine and curly tail lamb chops with garlic mushrooms and mash has done me for the night.

Edit. Does the rest of the world eat lamb as much as Australia? And is it any good?
We grow it here and it is still expensive compared to other meats.

Ok. You have probably all seen the Krauser up on ebay.
Sad thing. It has the original booklet in the trunk.
Sold in 1988.
Now I have no idea if it is original on the bike, but can you imagine some tool buying the /2 in 1988 and going 'you know what? I think a Krauser fairing would look good on this!!!'

wow. mind boggles the.

Currently in states of undress.

This bike, apart from the Krauser is original. Pulled the tank off (no clips, someone has been in there). What did I see? Dust. Removed the relay box cover and underneath it is brand new. Never been opened.

Well, now this is an interesting twist.
And may I say very comfortable.
I love the look of the low seat.
And the riding position is great.

how come it feels different?....the bars and the seat are the same configuration as on the basic or are they K100 bars on yours rather than RT?..it does look really good though with the plastic on the tank...no side covers needed?..now how you going to sell the basic with bits missing.....perhaps sell it as a K100?
OK then whats the chance of finding a tank thingy?

There are plenty of threads about the weeping hole. You are better to monitor if the coolant is not mixing with the Bourbon.
The picture doesn't show an ice bucket near the bottle. You should be OK for the next 24 hours.

Actually, I do use a bit of used oil on my place. Don't tell the environmentalists, but you can "paint" the oil on timber posts and rails ...old style fences....and the oil stops the wood from drying out and splitting

Mine is still in containers stored safely in the garage. I also have containers for used coolant and other nasties.
Did I mention I worked for a company called OTEK for ten years?
