Hi all!
This past fall I purchased my first bike, an 85 k100 LT that had previously been through a garage fire and was partially restored with a "street fighter" theme (in a post on this forum i believe). It was in decent condition when i bought it and ran great, but still needed some further work IMO. It had quite a bit of rust in several places, pitted front forks that continuously ripped up the seals, and a rattle can paint job.. So this winter was devoted to a further restoration as well as some custom touches. At first I wanted to do a cafe conversion but eventually elected not to go with the full on cafe style, rather just take a few elements and incorporated them into my build . The finished product is still about a week or so out from completion. The final pieces to be added are the tank and seat. The seat is at the upholstery shop right now and the tank is primed and ready to be sprayed within the week.

Also, I'd like to thank everyone on this forum. Anytime i was having problems i could easily find info here from past posts or posts that i submitted. It was all very helpful!

That's very nice indeed.

I'm always a bit jealous of those who live places where you can run a machine without mudguards (fenders I believe for the Merkins). It's difficult to do a similar job in the UK without spoiling the overall look to stay within the Construction & Use Regulations here.

Where did you get a box full of the correct stainless bolts from or have you picked them individually form an engineering store?

And is that the original seat reformed and covered or a costume seat / seat off the shelf?

In the process of rebuilding a K100RT, that last was on the road in 1999.
However I started pretty much with a carcass and had to add custom parts to it as all the original was gone.

My own project..

What did you use to strip the paint of the petrol tank?  Seen some use of wet and dry paper and aircraft paint stripper..
Just trying to decide if this is a nice DIY job or best sent to a place with the right equipment.

I am looking to run a plain aluminum tank, might polish it or just run it stripped.

I see in one of your pics 2 tractors. Luxury! One for grass and one for tarmac!

Great job BTW.

Sorry everyone, I haven't checked this forum as of late.

FL1963-  I actually sent all my hardware to a shop in town that does anodizing.  I had all of my exposed hardware gold anodized. I'm sure if you google search you could find someone close who could do it for you.
As for the seat, it is fully custom.  I made a shortened seat pan for it after I chopped the frame and had it foamed and upholstered.  For the tank I used aircraft stripper.  It works like a charm and I love the polished alluminum look! Good luck with the build mate!

Ghost-  The grass tractor has a much more comfortable seating position for long distance rides haha.  and Thanks!

I know this thread is a little dated, but just wanted to give jfg3 a quick shout out for the solid work. The bike looks great!
