Hello All

I'm based in Sydney, in the past have owned ' 84 K100RS and R1200c loved em both. Stopped riding after a back operation years ago but now back in the game with an ex cop K1100LT nice bike well maintained I am 3rd owner.  Can anyone in Sydney recommend a good mechanic south or west who can be trusted? The old guy I used to go to near Wiley Park has either retired or passed away.  Just want the bike checked out properly and any critically worn parts replaced with a good service also

Happy riding.....

Mick Dyer at Penrith gets a pretty good rap from people that use him.

Welcome Noelo Akes

Sounds like what you are after is a service day.
We can come to your place and do it all for you and with you.
All for the princley sum of getting an earful of how good K bikes are.

I am in Castle Hill and others nearby.

Get a few general service items (oil/ filter fuel filter gearbox oil final drive oil) and they are easy to change in and out.

In the meantime, ride it and see what you think may be a problem.

Take it from there.
That is the cheapest option and probably the most reliable, even if you find the worlds bestest meKaniK.
Nothing like riding it to find the problems.

lettuce know.

Ah Ah funny!
This was a glitch on one of the first version of Word Perfect.
When you ran the spell check, it replaced 'Let us' know by 'lettuce know'

Welcome to the forum Noel, you have alot of K series owners in the Sydney region, who are on here, They will no doubt be wanting to drop in and say G'Day. The only trusted mechanics they know are themselves, And there are a goodly number of 1100 owners in here who will talk you through everything you need to know to play with your bike. Bet regards

Hello Noel, I will send you my secret scone recipe if needed for the fixit day. I still have a T shirt from Mick Dyer at Penrith, 20 years old now so he must be a good mechanic. Nothing can't be done by this crew and yourself
with a bit of guidance, especially if there is no major flaws to start with. Let us know what suburb you are in
and we will come and rob your house. No No I meant see who is closest.

Wow, what a bunch of altruistic chaps you are... Scones you say?...Having not ridden a K for 10 plus years , ( last Beemer was an R1200 so very different feel) I'm not certain what I should be looking for, another gear would be nice for the highway but it is what it is.. the chap who had it before me appears to have looked after it very we'll but at 145ks I was thinking I'd like the clutch checked out , any valves need adjusting , splines etc? The gearbox seems a bit noisy but so did my 84 K100rs and again I don't profess to know what to look for. It does go like a shower of poo when it hits 4500 rpm which I just love.. I work at Castle Hill so perhaps I could ride it in one day and hand the keys to Rossko for a his opinion on it before committing to a service centre somewhere. I see Tom Byrnes has been taken over by pro cycles. And the head mech passed away recently.... Does nothing stay the same .... Safe riding ....

Valve clearances?, doddle mate, all the tools and shims are around somewhere near, spline lube easy, swing arm bearing check, all part of a half days work for Rossco. Don't lend him your bike though, it'll be on Gumtree in half an hour after.

Hi mate and welcome.
You will also be required to make scones for them.

If you didn't polish it with goanna oil it wouldn't have ended up on Gumtree

A warning Noeloaks, in case you haven't figured it out, some of the other members of this forum (particularly OZ ones) are mad.
And they all started out normal like you.
Our solution is simple, buy one or two more K's, and you have instant spares, and something to compare them to.

Be care full of that RT fella he has K pox and is trying to contaminate others by encoraging them to buy even more K's.
The best thing about K bikes is doing your own repairs and maintenance. The second best thing is the scones.
Welcome

And thank you all again for the kind welcomes.. I have indeed noticed some " colourful" members comments but put it down to scone overdose. Will definitely look for a ride and service day soon with the Sydney chaps. Anyone riding a Beemer can't be all bad.......

Let's make this a group event.

Which part of this wonderful town is this house call taking place in?

Once disclosed, I'm happy to find the nearest pub to do "post service and maintenance" work.

Ok, I live in a Oatley, have a garage but it's set the bottom of a steep driveway, will probably go through a clutch a year on that alone, this upcoming weekend I am dealing with the mop up of a deceased estate but free most weekends thereafter. The brick is registered as a 99 k11Lt ( ex Toronto cops ) but it may well have been built before that given what I've heard about local govt imports and when they actually stamp compliance plates. It's in good nick has been well maintained by 2nd owner but at 145k's I'd like to get it checked for stuff I am not even aware of that may need servicing . I am happy to make scones but even happier to shout beers at Oatley pub. Maybe have a ride to stanwell before hand and a more experienced member take my bike? Otherwise I am happy to bring wherever in Sydney and once advised get all required fluids etc, not sure if I have the tools required either, I just ride em and am happy to pay the maintenance for a safe bike,,,,

Mad, who's mad? "They're coming to take me away to the funny farm where life is beautiful." So the song goes.

Hang on, the men in white coats have just arrived.

Well aside from this bloke pulling up on a naked K, ( bloody nice looking bike I thought) demanding my keys, taking my bike for a ride then making me buy him beer I don't have a lot else to report other than I am very appreciative of Mr Rossko's time and advice. The K is now with an experienced BM mechanic who is resealing the forks, doing a full safety check, fluids, splines, brakes, final drive etc and has confirmed the steering  head end seemed ok , just a bit of gunk ( as Rossko suggested ) but that the bushes were just about worn out. So I will get this work done
( half the resale value of the bike) an pay up for it then I have a starting point to maintain it from with advice from you other distinguished gentlemen on the forum.

Thanks again to everyone for the input. I hope to meet up and ride with you all sometime soon and will no doubt see Rossko at the local pub again in the near future..

Safe riding....

Ok, so service is done, forks sealed, bushes , cups replaced, new rear meltzler, motorad annual service performed, all oil, coolants and filters replaced, vacuum bleed nipples replaced, splines checked, valves adjusted etc, cost two thirds of the bikes resale value but I'm happy I now have a place to start from with future self maintenance. rode down the coast this weekend with my cousin and her Harley crazy girlfriends and couldn't believe how different the bike felt after service. Almost like new. At one point we picked up a police escort ( Wollongong based cop on an R1150) from Berry to Kiama, think he was keen on the girl riders,  also saw an other K parked near great southern pub and got a friendly wave from the refined gentleman rider.... thanks Rosskko and others on the forum for advice....  I'll try to arrange a ride via Rosskko and meet some of you soon  Hello from Sydney - need a good bmw mechanic 314114

Those of us more comfortable with doing our own work may say ouch, but good on you for getting a baseline on the bike and hopefully you can be trained in the ancient art of self service (double entendre intended).

Glad my diagnosis of the steering was close to correct and it should feel like a new bike with all the work done.

A ride? Sure. Wazongong this Saturday.  Pick you up on the way through, down Stanwell Park and a chat with fellow tragics?

What say you?
