Aluminium protection

Now that my aluminium bits are clean what is the best way to keep them that way?
I've read about autosolv and belgomalu and how they add a protective layer onto the aluminium, anyone have any feedback on these items or anything better as I do not wish to spend so long cleaning these items again.

Chromate treatment and paint, it has worked on the worlds aircraft for years. That is the best way, but for a bike then a polish up every week will work.

Thanks bikerboy, that sounds expensive and I do not wish to spend every week polishing it. I will probably paint it.
