HI all ive just joined up im from Western Australia currently have an 85 K100rs with 109kms on the clock the old girls in decent condition however the fairings have seen better days so i have decided to convert her to a Kafe i will keep all the original parts just in case i want to convert her back i will post up pics as i go along this is the first Bmw i have owned and i have gotta say im very impressed i also own a 62 Triumph Thunderbird pre unit that is fully restored but she is no everyday rider

Welcome to the forum. Lots of Ks and members around Australia....Everyone is very helpful and sociable too.

Have a look at the home page, there is a section  on what to do if you bought a K bike. Someone always has the answers and we all had to start somewhere so don't be afraid to ask what you think is a simple question.

Welcome from someone nearer to home (apart from the fact that I spend more time at work in Qld than I do at home in Darlington Perth)

Please don't cafe till you have done at least one decent road trip with it in RT form. I was initially dismayed by the extra weight and cumbersomeness of the fully faired machine but just the ride from Newcastle to Sydney converted me - let alone the more recent Sydney to Melbourne section via the coast road.

I am looking at doing a Perth Esperance Kalgoorlie round trip in November if you are interested.

Sorry just realised yours is an RS. I have recently procured an '85RS but have yet to do any distance on it. You will be welcome to try my RT when I get it home to Perth. Or the LT that Charlie99 put me onto, when I have got it running.

I didn't tell you that I ended up buying that one you told me about hey Charlie!

I must add my piece to the RT/LT comment. If you are out in all weathers then nothing will beat the RT/LT fairing and riding position. I hardly use a car now and where I live we get 60 inches [1500mm] of rain a year but very little frost or snow. Despite that I have never used a rain suit on the bike, just over gloves and waterproof over boots. Naturally I prefer good weather but the prospect of a wet ride doesn't end up altering my plans.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys and info Rawdonball i may take you up on that ride in November i have taken the bike for a good ride with the fairings still on and they are great i will prob buy another for touring the fairings on my 85 k100rs are all cracked and it seems they have been removed or partially removed before and not put back on properly i found heaps of screws missing and broken bits so that's why shes being converted one bonus is the bike has a full service history from new and runs great
