My new to me K1, 1991, Wont start unless the side stand is up, so cant warm her up unless on the centre stand, or sitting aboard... A thing of the time/era maybe.  Jeremy

I put a scotch lock across the two wires feeding the switch and it is still there for roadworthy purposes and doesn't work at all and can be removed easily.
Seeing as Blakey has split the post I need to redo my answer.
The side stand has a switch that turns off the fuel injection when the stand is down. My K1100 is the same and its a real PITA.
Start reading above.
The connector is under the right side cover a large 2 pin and the scotch lock is on the harness side of the plug

When I bought the K1 the PO had disabled this switch but one day as I set off the bin men started waving at me frantically - I had managed to leave the side stand down.

I have now fixed the side stand switch but also added a switch to over ride this ( for the odd times I want to start on the side stand).
 
I had a blank in my switch console and used a spare switch.
