I'm pretty new to BMW bikes, but its a long awaited project to start. I am wanting to build a diesel BMW K series. The build project will be a Briggs and Stratton diesel 1000cc 3cylinder engine and with an adapter plate mated up to the BMW gearbox. I won't be using the turbo version just a straight diesel with a bit of internal tweaking lol.
I hope you guys don't mind but I would like to pick your brains about various BMW parts as regarding the running gear and fuel system (petrol tank) of the K100.
Cheers in advance

That sounds like a really interesting project, and I am sure that you will get all the help and advice you need on this forum. It will assist if you make a build thread with plenty of photos to stimulate interest.

I look forward to seeing how you get on.

Best wishes.

cheers guys, I got the frame for the build yesterday from Newark and what a solid frame it is. I have the materials to make a set of leading link front forks and they were designed by a motorbike designer/consultant Tony Foale in the 1970's but I have done my own twist to them by using a set of USD fork yokes and 2 lengths of  scaffolding pole for the legs. It sounds a bit industrial using scaff poles but I promise they will look good lol, said he fingers and bit crossed. I will take a step by step photo's of the build and set up a build posting for people to follow I will try not to bore you guys to much haha - ALAN

I can see a real market for this one......good competition for those lovely peaty Scotch whiskys!!

I can hear the poetry coming....

I wandered lonely as Kloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at one I heard a shout
'Get off my f***** daffodils'.

Interesting! My first question would be, WHY? Is it the challenge or have you plans for an unusual trip?

I want to build a diesel bike and trike in the long run, I've been processing waste cooking oil for years and just want to build a trike and bike to run on my processed fuel, I have proccessed the waste now to have a smell of citrus fruit now and its better than the smell of fishshops lol. The fuel does allow longer ride outs and I can in theory process waste cooking oil at a road side with a little kit I have. the K100 is the perfect size for the diesel bike project you only need to extend the front leg of the frame really and weld an engine mount on the end of it. The gearbox adapter plate is a bit fiddly but I will farm that work out and carry on with all the rest of the work my self. ALAN

Older diesel engines work well for this, especially the Bosch system used in the Mercedes 240D and 300D, also the smaller Peugeot/Citroen 1.7 and 1.9 XUD engines. These don't need processing, in fact will run on vegetable oil mixed with diesel as the fuel is heated at the filter. But too big for a bike.

In terms of size the Daihatsu was supposed to be good, it was certainly a great car to drive and as soon as I can extract my photo I will send it.

The peugeot has been used somewhere along the lines in a diesel bike project, the bio-diesel bike land speed record used a 2 ltr BMW engine so it goes to show anything is possible if you have a trusty grinder and a welder lol.

theres a big following in this country (England UK)as well and I think it will get bigger in the coming years Charlie99.
I want to get in with the fuel saving in a big way, I want a storage (1000 ltr) tank in my garden to fuel up my van, bike a trike before I leave home lol.
The family are also showing an interest as well ever since I've changed the smell of the processed fuel.
