Hi

Anyone know what the change in piston rings was? the K100 pre and post 02-1988 have different part numbers.

Happy new year to all

The piston rings was pinned (like a two stroke) during -88, to wean them from smoking.

Thanks IngeK

Does that mean I can't use the later rings in the earlier engine??

The later rings will have a little bevel or cut out at the ends to mate with a bridge across the ring groove in the piston. Ring will therefore be slightly shorter to allow for thw bridge so it won't be usable. Two stroke engines always had rings pinned so the ends would not rotate into the transfer ports in the cylinder wall. You only need them on a 4 stroke engine where the cylinder is horizontal. Not sure but I have a feeling the groove dimension may also have changed.
