Can the clutch centering-alignment tool bind a little bit or does it have to rotate completely free as Chris Harris suggests?  Mine was rotating free until after I torqued the final two screws in the star sequence. Should I undo them and reposition it again?

Your photo seems to indicate that you fastened only three screws, bmwk100rs. This time, gradually and sequentially fasten all six screws while checking centering tool rotation.
