This year, I noticed an oily film around the Oetiker clamps and throttle body rubbers on throttle bodies 3 and 4 between the plenum and throttle body. It is not present on numbers 1 and 2. They were all replaced 3 winters ago with new clamps. I balanced my throttle bodies earlier this year with zero issue and am having absolutely no performance issues and have a rock-solid idle. Because of that, I have not bothered yet to spray anything to check for air leaks. Am I looking at possible cracked or split rubbers?

Thanks,
Tom

Maintenance this past winter included removing it for inspection and it was in great condition. It was a replacement 3 years ago, too. I'll check it again. I do carry a spare.

Why not just wipe off the oily film and enjoy what you are describing as an excellent ride? You can always take time-lapse photos of its development for your journal. Smile  Otherwise, a little oily film could possibly serve as a theft-deterrent. Who knows?

Z-pipe - I hate that thing. I just made one from a Guzzi breather pipe and the elbow and first inch of a breather pipe I removed from a Triton recently. Push two parts together, seal with self-amalgamating tape and (hopefully) forget it for good because the wall thickness of the two pipes is about 2.0mm.

Laitch - that one just went whoosh! and removed another chunk of hair around my bald patch.

I removed the breather pipe and it was perfectly fine. As I am having no performance issues, further inspection will now wait until the end of the riding season, which will include inspection of the rubbers between the plenum and throttle body on cylinders 3 and 4. I'll also source reusable clamps at that point, too.
