Is it possible to improve the protection from wind blast?
The windscreen does work, but only if I crouch down. Otherwise it is quite turbulent, felt mostly as noise.
I tried adjusting the small deflector at the top with little improvement.

Read this and perhaps it'll suit your needs:

Laminar Lip

I used one on my red RS for many years and kilometres. It may still be on the bike if Charlie99 likes it.

You can also search the forum's main page search box for other member's threads about windscreen height and the available options.

In my experience the factory deflector works best if tilted all of the way forward.

I've tried the K100RS Laminar Lip and it didn't seem any better than the factory defector - but I'm fairly tall: 6-2. (188cm)

It worked well for me at 5'9", but my pillion enjoyed it a lot, saying it didn't 'bobble head' her as much at Aussie motorway speeds - 100 to 110 kph.

I’m 6’ and was disappointed with the Laminar Lip. I found it only marginally better than the stock air deflector tilted all the way forward, but still didn’t get rid of the noise caused by turbulent air no matter where I put it. I should also mention that I have C bars on my bike and a Corbin seat. The C bars do sit me more upright than stock RS bars.

I’ve had an AeroFlow on my bike for the last 2 riding seasons and am completely satisfied. Mine is the Standard size which is 7.5” taller than stock and 6” wider (3” each side). It also provides the added benefits of protecting the headlight glass and the forward-facing area of the fairing. It also keeps all the bugs off me.

They aren’t cheap, but I was extremely fortunate to have a fellow offer me his that he never used for only the cost of shipping from Idaho to Alberta.

Thanks for the reports.
I think I'll experiment.

I made a simple flat deflector to try.
It adds 100mm vertically, following the shape at the rear of the original screen.

I'm 5' 10" and exactly that setup worked for me. I guess you've used alumin(i)um for the uprights: I used 15mm x 2mm stainless steel because that's what I had handy! You may find that the downside is the wind blast is no longer strong enough to remove rain from your visor. I also fitted naked bars which pushed me further back from the screen because the RS bars were too painful (I didn't know back then that I'd developed arthritis in my wrists - as a friend said: 'crash now, pay later').

I'd heard about the loss of wind blast resulting in rain drops staying on your helmet visor.
A suggestion was to use some wetting agent to compensate.
I haven't tried my new extension yet - it's another rainy day.
That's good news that yours worked.

I do not recommend adding such blades to the windscreen... they will slice you in case of frontal crash.
BMW paid attention to design the K's to avoid any source of injury caused by the bike itself. That's why, for example, the tank cap is not protuberant, there's a foam pad in the middle of the handlebar, and the fiberglass fairing can tear apart without creating any sharp pieces of plastic.

@jbt: it's not going to cause a problem in the event of an accident that throws you over the handlebars. I accidently knocked my Mk.I version when turning around quickly in my garage and hit it with my forearm. It bent the upright; had I hit it a little bit harder I'm sure it would either have broken the Lexan screen or ripped the brass thread insert out of the fairing.
