I have a 1988 bmw k100 and i was putting my crankcase cover back on after replacing my starter and torqued a bolt down to one too many foot pounds and it snapped off inside my block (i need to invest in a torque wrench). does anyone know anywhere i could find a new bolt (preferably a store but i’ll order if i have to) and how i should remove such a small bolt? it’s the 10mm with the gasket

I dont understand about the crankcase cover, it does not need to come off to replace the starter.

Those bolts need very low torque.

A guess is www.motorworks.co.uk or www.tills.de but either way you should renew all the bolt gaskets and the o ring gasket on that cover as yours are likely to be hard.

MaxBMW in New Hampshire will get your parts to you before you know it. Pandora in Chattanooga might have it but they don't make it as easy to find out.

The o-ring in the diagram doesn't even have an entry in the K100 2-valve parts list. If it was still needed but unavailable, the o-ring (6) usually would be in the parts list with NLA (No Longer Available) in its price column. The K75 has the same bolt, same bushing and same configuration of crankshaft cover as your 2-valve K100 but the o-ring isn't in the drawing. Maybe BMW discovered it wasn't need at all. Anyway, that's for you to find out. Smile  You could likely get a Viton o-ring at a local auto parts store, if you had the old ring or dimensions of it.

i thought they needed to be torqued high so i was really cranking on it, and i had to pull it off to lube the gears because it was stuck

A 6mm screw, with a purpose of basically sealing the cover along with its mates, and going into an aluminium casing, wouldnt need ft/lbs. More like inch/lbs.
