Hi all,

I am away from my Bike right now and am wanting to order my aftermarket Digital Speedo. I need to provide them with the Inside Diameter of the Cooling Hose I intend to put my Temp Sensor into. This sensor is just a T Piece that you cut the hose and insert into both sides. I have been scanning the web without luck. The Hose I was looking at installing the T Piece in is either the hose from the left hand top of the Radiator down to the block BMW Part # 17 12 1 460 278, or the other hose that goes from this hose across the rear of the radiator towards the Thermostat BMW Part # 17 12 1 460 416. If anyone can assist it would be greatly appreciated as I can then order and have it at home when I get back in 7 days. Bike is an 87 K100RS

Thanks

You dont put the temp sender into the hose across the back of the radiator as it only has a flow when the engine is warming up. If you put it in the hose from the temp sender to thr left top of the radiator be prepared to see the temp going up and down like a yo yo. best place to put it is into the water pump housing next to the oil sender switch (there is a small socket head bung). That is where BMW put the senders for the factory gauges.

Thanks for the reply Rick. As I said I am not near my bike currently. I might do some investigation into the original Temp Sensor and see if it can be adapted to provide the signal required for the new unit. The unit I am fitting will be a Trail Tech Vapor Stealth with the Dashboard adaptor. Might order for now without the Temp Sensor until I can finalise what type of install I want to use.

Why does the Vapor need ID of the coolant hose?

It is for which fitting to use for the temp sensor.

Ah. Simple answer that I did not think about. My thoughts went towards an algorithm to detect something in relation to the ID of the hose.

Don't cut a hole in rad hose  find an electric type sensor set up .Those tee type mounts that fit in the hose are a breakdown waiting to happen.
