G'day All, This topic has most likely been covered before so apologies for any inane questions. In view of Rick-meister's recent shockie failure and other similar failures, what is a good replacement shock.
Is it worthwhile getting a used shock for rebuilding???? What do the valued members of the forum think. Thank you all. Cheers Tom

The OE unit isn't really intended to be rebuilt, although there are a small number of specialists who will do it it's often cheaper to buy a decent replacement.

Possibly the best value for money in terms of performance is the RAM unit made by Realm Engineering.

I've only ever used their shock on one bike (so far) but it seemed every bit as good as suspension that costs four times the amount.

I agree that the Realm shock is the one to buy if you have the readies.
An alternative, if you are watching the pennies, is to rebuild the original with a new Bilstein damper. James Sherlock in the UK are offering them for £112.80. Sherlocks
Don't need a specialist to rebuild it, just a big hammer and a small cold chisel. I borrowed a pair of small spring compressors to put it back together.
The result is ok. 'You pays your money...'
